The Matt Campbell Era

His first two games are officially omitted for me.
The rest of that 2016 season was interesting to watch, just to see what he could do with what he had, and how players responded.

That throttling of Tech was one of the best all around games ISU had played in a long time.

As much as that Iowa game sucked, that was the point when he took total control over the program. There was a noticeable difference from that point on

Oh I don’t know why I kept on thinking Jamahl Johnson was a Paul Rhoads recruit.

He was. He and Azunna and Lawrence White (maybe a few others) were part of Rhoads last class and stayed committed through the coaching change. I think Akers came in that January as a greyshirt from the previous class.

Don't know how you can look back over the last few years and think that Campbell isn't the right guy for ISU football. Granted people on this forum got a little ornery last year, but that's just fans being fans.

What's fun is that there's still plenty left for Campbell to potentially accomplish and cement his legacy.

1. Win 9-10 games and break the record from 2000.
2. Make the Big 12 championship game, and even win it.
3. Beat Iowa.
4. Make a top shelf bowl game (Sugar or other NY6)
why stop at #4, if we can win the B12 in the future we might be set up for the CFP..

last season was a let down compared to many of ours expectations, but still a winning season for the 3rd straight year with more hopefully to come. ISU is in the talk a little bit more nationally every year now it seems which is great and more exposure potentially brings more success with it. I will be satisfied with another 8 win season next year, as long as we are at least competitive in every game, but damn would that 9+ win season be awesome when it happens finally. long live the Matt Campbell Era at ISU.

Forgot to stress that “Stupid fans” Anybody that’s disappointed in what CMC and his team are doing is nothing but a WITCH. Matt Campbell is GOAT is my era and I wouldn’t trade him for anybody. The best is yet to come with this coach and the cyclones.

These "Stupid fans" quoting you...Have never met and had the Misery and Losing of the Jim Criner and Jimmy Dean Walden years...Walden's last year ZERO WINS....but gee we got One Tie...Absolutely Rock Bottom for Football. Enjoy Matt Campbell while we have him...and pray that Jamie Pollard can keep him for a LONG TIME...GO Cyclones

Brought in a lot of guys that contributed right away.

Some of the key guys the first few years were Rhoads players (Lazard & Lanning), but it’s a reminder of how much recruiting had dropped off at the end of the PR era

I AGREE Completely with your "recruiting dropped off at the end of the Rhoads era"...Like Off a Cliff ....Thanks again Jamie Pollard for getting rid of Rhoads after the K-State Disaster....

Oct 2017 was the best month. I just remember every day was just happy. There are few things better than the days after big iowa state wins.

I love watching highlights from the TCU game. The sun was bright, not a cloud in the sky, the whole place was just popping on TV. The defense that day was fantastic.

I actually think that CPR started to turn things around a little at the end. His first few classes are what killed him. Of course, by the end, the writing was on the wall and he couldn't recruit effectively.

It's hard to imagine that we could find a better coach for Iowa State. I was not sold on him after that first year. The best part about it though was that he acknowledged some of the issues and admits when he makes mistakes.
The first 3 games in 2016 were brutal, but as the rest of the year went on you could tell there was something there with Campbell. We played a lot of close games with some really good teams when we definitely were at a talent disadvantage.

i was obviously very wrong but I left the last game that year very angry.

Yep. I was actually pretty optimistic about Campbell after that season, once I looked back at the games themselves and saw reasonable improvement with largely the same players and team quality.

Then 2017 happened and all doubts were erased.
