KU's football field is named after a basketball player? Priceless

Those paver bricks often go on sale at Menards for 47 cents.

I have a feeling we're getting squeezed by union labor. Their contract probably only allows 12 bricks per worker to be laid in an 8 hour shift.

But here's a better idea for JP. He could SELL bricks with people's names or messages written on them. That way they could get the bricks AND raise money.

Actually, it would be foolish to get them at a retail outlet like Menards, you can get them much cheaper from a masonry distributor like United Brick & Tile in Des Moines. I just threw out that number because it happened to be the easiest to find. But that's beside the point.

I do like the idea of selling the named bricks. Heck, you see that all over the place. For only $100, you can have your name in Jack Trice Stadium. Sign me up.

Also, for anyone that lives in the Omaha area, take a walk around the ConAgra campus downtown sometime. The road, all sidewalks, the trail around the pond, even the underground link between the buildings is all brick pavers. Sure it probably cost more, but it looks awesome.

Can't even make that stuff up...

Sept. 26, 2005
LAWRENCE, Kan. - Former University of Kansas basketball student-athlete Tom Kivisto has pledged $10 million, $2 million of which the university has already received, towards the planned football facility at KU's Memorial Stadium.

A native of the Chicago area, Kivisto was a three-year starter for KU's basketball team (1971-72 through 1973-74), and averaged 7.6 points per game for the Jayhawks' 1974 Final Four team. He earned Academic All-American, All-Big Eight and Academic All-Big Eight honors at KU, and is a member of the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame. He earned a bachelor's degree from KU majoring in pre-med and psychology. His master's work, also at KU, was in urban planning.

There are also some stadiums named after large donors and the field is named different. There are some that are just large donors.

We could just pay for it ourselves...:daydreaming:
say the project is $65M. there are around 7700 known Cyclone Club members...if each pledged $8,442 over 5 years (the length of time on the ISU foundation pledge sheet) that's $140.70/month.

We could pay for the basketball practice facility with each making a pledge of $896.00 or about $15.00/month.

I personally like Cyclone Fanatic Field at Jack Trice Stadium

Oh, just another 150 bucks a month. No biggie.

Jamie has said point plank that we will not change Jack Trice or Hilton naming rights. He did say naming rights for the field or court were still options.

Dang that's going to look sweet after all the sod they're laying (I'm assuming that's the brown crap on the webcam) grows in nice and green.

JTS WebCam

Wait a minute, isn't sod green?

As long as the Iowa fans that we've hired to install it install it green side up

What the heck are they installing right now? Something to hold onto the sod?

That looks an awful lot like the woven artificial stuff to hold soil on hillsides while seed grows.

Another corner being cut? Well, if it helps the Athletic Department budget for Phase II, I'm all for it.

I'm not a genius, but what does that accomplish when the seeds break the soil and there's 0 sunlight? Or do they hope it all grows in equally and then take it off?

You can lay sod, but by the time everyone walks on it (assuming people walk down the hill instead of stairs to cut time) or kids sliding on it. It's going to tear it all up and they will have to replace it. Also, sod is really expensive. Yes, this is a cheaper way of doing it, but it will grow in just as fine in the long run.

You don't take this off...the grass will grow through the layer and it is serving the purpose of straw except straw would blow all over the place. This stuff over time will decay into the soil so you can't even tell it's been there.

...or kids sliding on it...

Maybe we could get CyBookie going on the back hill pizza box toboggan races during the first couple of games.

The last couple of years, it's been shocking to watch kids climbing on (and in!) the dumpsters to retrieve used pizza boxes just so they could slide down the hill. No parents around. Terrible.
