I used to use Chris' and Williams' but then read somewhere that when it is a name you always add 's even when the name ends in s.

So now if I am talking about the Williams house I say "Chez Williams"...
;)

Does it make a difference if the word starts with "s?"

Chris's sisters?
Chris' sisters?
Chris Williams's sisters?
Chris Williams' sisters?

My brother has a master's degree and has no clue how to use the words "lose" and "loose."

What a looser.

From actual posts on CF (I have 9 WORD Document pages of similar stuff):

-"CW wearing a stalking hat in his house because he hasn't showered since Thanksgiving."

-"Fickell sweeps in and grabs the job Freeman thought he was aire apparent to and Freeman says fine with me?"

-"Ok under three to go. Let’s see if these ladies can finish it this time. Exercise some demons."

-"HOWEVER, if some of our ex-Cyclones end up in there, my interest will be peaked."

Don't forget putting the apostrophe in the wrong spot. The year 2023 shortened is '23, but people seem to love to write it 23'. Remember the apostrophe indicates where something was left out like DO NOT -> DON'T.

And it is called an asterisk, not an astrick.
There is an ever raging war over how to spell y'all. It's a contraction. It stands for You All and the apostrophe replaces the ou. It is NOT Ya All with the apostrophe replacing the capitalized A. By the way, that's NOT a capitolized A.

Some more classics from actual CF posts:

-"I really only listen to him about what players are standing out everything else is couch speech".

-"We already get estrogens from waxed rappers at fast food, et al".:D

-"THT is a walking highlight real".

Not exactly sure.
I'm beginning to think how to use an apostrophe is no longer taught in school or a lot of people missed school that day.

A few examples:

"The Yoda's wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!"

And cards addressed to "The Vader's" (The Vader's home? the Vader's kids, the Vader's dog, the Vader's light saber? Or is it addressed to The Vader Is?)

Sign outside a business: "Light saber's for sale" (Do they have 1 light saber for sale? Or does the light saber possess something else for sale?)

Keeping up with the Jones's (with the Jones's what??) - sorry, couldn't think of a Star Wars related example for that one

:D:p
This thread took a weird turn talking about Vader’s light saber.

Autofinish on the phone has let some mistakes slip through on my posts, sometimes my proofreading gets sloppy (or I just don't do it)
