Texas Tech fires FB Coach Matt Wells

I think the concern here is:
1. They are likely going to lose out and end 5-7, 3 straight losing seasons.
2. Wells straight up showed lack of interest in being in Lubbock (can’t blame him, it’s like Mars). On their local radio show they asked him his favorite part of living in Lubbock and he couldn’t even name ONE!!

You get fired in your third year with a 5 and 3 record?
Yes, and maybe they’re getting better. But I think they’re essentially expecting them to finish 0-4, and 5-7 on the season with a 5 game losing streak and going 2-7 over their last 9.

They still have to play @ OU, ISU, OSU, @ BU.

Part of me wonders if they're hoping the change might spark the team to an upset in one of the last 4 games.

Yeesh, is Tech seriously going to fire their coach during the season? Do they think other coaches will be super excited to take that job after that? Maybe they just plan to stick with their interim coach? Seems like a really hasty move.

Mac Davis sang it best..."happiness is Lubbock, Texas in the rearview mirror!"

Seems like they decided the K-State blown lead was the last straw and they didn't want to give him a chance to win back the fan base by stealing a couple ranked wins down the stretch.

The Tech AD is also on a pretty short leash after this hire hasn't been great and after he lost Beard.

I commented earlier before I looked at their schedule. They're remaining schedule is basically the top half of the Big 12. So they will likely not win another game this season.

Coaching prospects don't give a **** about the past guy getting canned mid-season, that is WAY overblown. Each coach has a self-inflated ego that says they can do it, they can make it happen; it doesn't matter how the last guy ended things - in most instances.

I'd prefer him to not get fired. I could easily see them bringing in Hugh Freeze.

The wheels were obviously coming off. A graduate assistant was insulting Tech fans on Twitter yesterday.

One lady said “nothing is more painful than being a Texas Tech football fan” and he replied “Yes there is… being associated with you…”

How many years in a row has Tech started 5-1 or 5-2 to finish 6-6 or 5-7... has to be going on 10 straight years it seems.
