If we can get and keep 15 of these high schoolers until they are 5th year seniors, then this will be a top 20 class, because they would have developed and grown into good players within this system, and many of those classes ahead of us will not have. If they wash out after a year or two, then it's not even top 100. So as many of us have said over and over again, it will be years down the road before you can accurately grade a recruiting class

But as a snapshot at a point in time, I am extremely happy with this class, which is really CPR's first class

NOT stupid. If you look at rankings throughout the years, you'll probably find that the teams consistently ranked in the top 20 are the ones fighting for BCS conference titles and BCS bowl berths year in and year out. Sure, they could be way off in any given year, but taken as a whole, they are pretty predictive of who the good teams will be/are.

And yes, you can always find one or two teams who DON'T fit that summation.

Agreed. I think we all probably put a little too much stock in recruiting rankings for individual players, but overall class rankings are important IMO. Generally speaking, a class with mostly three star recruits is going to be better than a class of mostly two star recruits. Teams that get mostly four and five star recruits are usually more successful than teams with mostly two and three star recruits.

What separates teams with similar recruiting classes is coaching, player development, and player retention. If you're good at all three of those, you will probably beat most of the teams with equal talent as well as some more talented teams.

The difference between one five star player and one 3 star player might not be that much. In fact, it's certainly possible that the 3 star player is better. However, the difference between 10 5 star players and 10 3 star players is much greater.
