Tavern Clones

So basically what we have learned from this thread is: Tavern Hawks are the best salespersons to create Cyclone fans.

South of Fort Madison for me. ISU was not in the papers, on TV, talked about, etc... It was all Hayden and Tom Davis.

There was another regime that tried that brainwashing tactic once. I'm trying to think of who that was. Oh yeah, it was those guys from WWII.

UNI grad in 10 days here. Only chose UNI due to their accounting program but have been a huge ISU fan my entire life. My sister currently attends ISU and my youngest sister will be going there next fall.

Surprisingly, there is a pretty good chunk of students that attend UNI that are Cyclones fans. Cedar Falls has actually become a pretty decent area for ISU grads due to the amount of engineers that work for John Deere here. I've never had a problem seeing a group of ISU fans when watching a game in a bar here either.

Straight up lies...

I'm curious to see who on this site use to be Hawk fans? Anyone want to admit it??

I was a hardcore fan of both schools as a kid. I rooted for ISU when they played because ISU was more often the underdog. It may have played a role in my picking ISU.

My dad went to ISU and my mom went to Iowa. I had equal reason to cheer for both growing up, and did. I didn't see it as a zero sum game, and figured I only had to choose when they went head to head. On Saturday mornings I would tune into Zabel early, and switch over to Pete for the afternoon game. I had gear from both schools, and it wasn't odd to see me wearing an ISU shirt and an Iowa hat. Also in this period of time (1994-2002), both schools had success in each revenue sport.

people would tell me "you have to choose someday" and I didn't get it at all. Even after I decided to go to ISU. Then, I spent about 3 days on campus and couldn't fathom ever rooting for Iowa again.

I liked Iowa basketball. I enjoyed it so much I attended an Iowa basketball camp as a kid. During a lunch break I was sitting at a table with a few other kids and J.R. Koch. One kid got up to use the bathroom and left the table, during that time Koch looked at all of us, gave us the 'quiet' motion, and proceeded to spit on the kids burger and hide said loog with the bun. J.R. could barely contain himself in anticipation and when the kid took a bite into his burger, J.R. lost his ****. Minutes of uncontrollable laughter.

It was at that exact moment that I decided I could never like Iowa basketball if a dork like J.R. Koch was allowed to play for them. Never rooted for them again after that.

I can't believe that goober got drafted.

My dad is an Iowa State grad, my mom is an Iowa grad. Red looked better on me

Only reason why I'm not going to Iowa State is because they don't have the program I want to go into (Aviation).

Not an ISU grad, but I like taverns. If the shoe fits, I'll wear it.

Loras grad, currently attending Clarke University for PT. The only reason I didn't seriously consider Iowa State when I was in high school and looking at colleges was because I didn't have a clue and thought I could get a better opportunity to get into medical school by going to Iowa. Life has a funny way of working out.

I was a hok fan until I was 16 or so and realized I wanted to be an architect... Changed allegiances fairly quickly after that. Put my 5 years in and went to grad school for the same in NYC.

I've always been a Cyclone. My sister who is 4 years older than me, went to ISU and would have me up some weekends to party with the Tri-Delts. Needless to say I was hooked. My daughter graduated from ISU and a Tri-Delt also and my son will graduate from there in June (but not a Tri-Delt). I've spent a lot of money up there over the years. So I believe that counts for something. Plus I went to the college of hard knocks (Navy). I will take the moniker of Tavern Clone and wear it proudly.
