I have an old HVAC system (installed 1985!).

ok so my evap drain pan is cracked and is now leaking. I CAN'T FIND REPLACEMENT PART. NO WHERE ON THE INTERWEBS

It works great and what not.

Make: Carrier
Model: 58GS075-2
Evap: 28AU030000
Drain Pan
Make: Syracuse Plastics
#: 28AU401253

What do I do? Do I glue the part together hoping it lasts? try to make one out of sheet metal?

Plan on moving from this house in 3-5 years. and I know I will prob have to replace unit when selling?

Anyone else ever have this happen?

I would try to at least call the manufacturer and see if you could order it from them. If they don't have the part, you may have to come up with your own solution.

If you are expecting to replace it when you sell why not replace it now and recoup some of the savings from a newer more efficient unit while you are still there?

Otherwise go for it on the repairs to limp it by.

Couple thoughts, if you plan to replace prior to selling I would just do it now so you don't have to worry about it breaking down during one of tbe next couple winters and so you get some of the utility cost savings from higher efficiency over the next couple years. Alternatively, if you want to see how long you can get it to last I would glue with the best adhesive I could find and duct tape the back side for some extra support while it cures. Then when you sell try to offer a one year home warranty instead of replacing, some people might accept that if the furnace is functioning.

Furnace and AC? Mine was $7300 with a $2000 rebate from Lennox so $5300 a month ago. And my AC is 2 1/2 ton so not real big.

Had to replace my mom's a couple years ago. Has a 1300 square foot house. It was a little over 2K after the rebate.

If you plan to fix it, solder/braze it before gluing it.

Just replace it. If your unit is from 1985 it’s way past time. When that thing goes out in the dead of winter and they come and tell you that it will be $1000 to fix it or like $2500 to get a new one that they can do in two weeks you’ll be sad you didn’t. And so will your wife, and so will your baby. Don’t make them sad.

We replaced the AC unit and coil last year and it was 4 grand. I’d imagine it’s another couple grand to do the furnace as well. All of the rebates at that time were tied to doing both so we didn’t get any for the AC unit.

Shouldn't Derek be taking care of this?

Had this same thing happen last year to a 13 year old unit. Scuffed the crack with sandpaper on both sides and put a thick layer of epoxy on it. No more leak.

Sounds like I need to do some research. A friend in a 2,200 sqft house just had air/furnace replaced and it was close to 10k.

Had the exact same problem about ten years ago..My AC guy used JB WELD on the crack and it held up longer than the AC did...Just replaced everything this spring and the crack was still sealed tight..I can still remember Paul Harvey advertising JB Weld

We turned on our AC for the first time yesterday and after a while it stopped pushing cold air and developed a whistling/whining sound.

Unit is original to the house and was installed in 2004 in a 1400 sq/ft house. I would really like to not come off on a new unit, but I can pretty much see the writing on the wall.

Looking at York, Lennox and Ruud providers and am planning on getting multiple quotes unless the first place has an offer that is impossible to to down. I am looking at those brands because of local availability and brand reputation within kind of a second tier price point. Weather looks okay for a few days, so this shouldn't be an absolute emergency.

Any experience with these brands or CF "professional" opinions?

TIA
