not sure Milan or Omaha start to begin season. no need for it and TJ isn't handing them the job. will be shocking to some on here.

Gilbert and Jones seem like our best scorers at this point, which we already knew the 2 most established D1 scorers. takes a lot of pressure off Lipsey to score which is huge for us.

also think our defense will be even better this year. higher scoring games cause we'll push pace a lot more but i expect we force a ton of turnovers and hold teams to bad FG %. the versatility, athleticism, and depth on this team is something we haven't seen in a long time.

fun year ahead. maybe historic.

Repeating but my hope is they are athletic enough to just be able to play straight defense instead of needing to force a hornets nest with a bunch of traps and swatting all over.

The approach was favorable on the whole but teams also took advantage of the over pursuit.

Hopefully also psychology of the group is a bit different. If last year's team got jumped on or out of what they knew, it could go south quickly.

My takeaway from the past two days is that Pav playing some minutes at backup PG is going to be a major upgrade this year. That and pretty much all our transfer guards have some on ball playmaking skills.

I believe he has lead in assists both games

Schools are allowed these ‘basketball trips’ every other year. Maybe every third or fourth year. Not sure on frequency.

The women’s team is in Italy right now, IIRC.
Once every four years so four year players get at least one opportunity but schools can't use it as an every other year enticement.

I think they played the trapping defense in the past to force turnovers and create easy buckets. They needed to force turnovers because they knew they would struggle to score in the half-court.

With the increase in offensive capability, I expect to see them play a straight defense.

My takeaways from box scores in games that hardly matter:

Gilbert is gonna be GOOD. Seems to do it all.

Pav will be the backup PG and will probably play that position a lot.

Milan is a better rebounder than I expected. Still has to figure out how to not foul out though.

Hamilton is the only player who hasn’t scored a FG through 2 games. He’s likely last off the bench besides walk ons.

R. Jones is playing quite a bit less so far (YAY).

Lipsey 0-fer on 3s so far. Maybe it’ll improve but don’t expect a massive difference from last year.

Practices in the leadup to the season will be absolute wars. There is so much depth on this team everyone single guy is going to have to battle their *** off for time.

The eye of the storm ( ?) Video put put by the team was dunks and people hitting the deck going after loose balls.

i agree that Watson will be hard to keep off floor, but if get down to 8 man rotation by tourney time which is usually the rotation coaches prefer when it matters the most....i think it's Big Rob and Watson that draw the short straw.

Watson was our best defender last year. He has a tendency to disrupt passing lanes, he can guard 5 positions. If his offense has developed like I expect, I doubt he is gonna be missing out on minutes

Yeah that's basically what I'm getting at. Hopefully they can lean far less on defense and balance things out.
