“Abdicated” works.
How about “Better Dead Than Fred”?
All in good fun, of course. I don’t understand how he couldn’t do better—but the kNU athletic department has a good cash flow, and I assume threw piles of money at him.
The only bright side I see is that if anything happens with Prohm, Fred doesn’t have far to move back home.
