This is an insane story. Billions of dollars go through that canal on a hourly basis.... now at a complete stop.

I haven’t been following too closely, but how did the ship get stuck?? Did it get outside the channel and run aground? Did they do a U-turn in the canal?
I just told my wife her anniversary present is on that freighter.
My question is simply how? How does one **** this up so royally? I can't imagine you are supposed to do anything but keep er' straight...
I had heard somewhere that it was a really bad sandstorm or something? Maybe that's not true?
Also read a wind gust threw it off path into the canal wall.

@NWICY and I just talked about this today. Can you imagine that performance review? "I had a 95% success rate getting ships through the canal this past year. Just one incident."
I also heard on CNBC this morning that higher sea levels/higher tide is going to come in a few days. So they hope that will release some of the contact between the shop and the ground.
Curious to know how the cost of this would compare to some of the worst natural disasters the world has seen.
