I don't like how cartoony it looks, and don't like the cardinal on cardinal (for some reason i think it looks worse with this logo than it does with the I State).

But I don't think it's the worst logo ever created. I had a few non-ISU friends text me telling me how much they liked it.

This Iowa State Logo is SOOOOO bad...
(How bad is it?)
--This Logo was told by the "SUKUP end zone" sign it couldn't play in Ames anymore.
--Ames 1st grade elementary students love it and doodle it often in their crayon time.
--Emoji creators are suing for upside down red poop copyright infringement.
--Tailg8er's friends are telling her how much they like the logo....while secretly totally mocked her behind her back
--1977 called and wanted it back.
--Actually 1977 called and said it sucks, you can keep it.
--This red blob makes Brigham Young uniforms logos look incredibly sweet...
--Cleveland Brown gear out sells this logo in 99% of urban demographic test markets.
--This logo got its ass kicked by the 1996 Atlanta Olympics logo "whatzit"
--The San Diego Chicken gave Cy a paper bag to wear over his head.
--The Children's classic book "The Emporers new clothes" is being contemporarily adapted for a new movie by Netflix called "The Athletic Departments new logo"
--The American Conference has decided to reject our application to join their conference.

The most perplexing part about the logo is Chris and Woody think it is acceptable. The last people on earth that I would expect to like something like this. The only reasonable explanation is they know someone close to them that designed it like a friend/family or their boss.

I really don't like it. But I talked to several younger and they loved it. One was a former player. It actually looks better on some shirts I saw. But wouldn't hurt my feelings if it goes away with the hawk banana peel shoulder stripes.
It may look OK on clothing. I haven't seen it yet and will reserve judgement. It absolutely can't be used on a red helmet again.

I don't understand why Iowa State is so afraid of a classic looking design. All the best looking and top programs have simple classic designs. The 2 gold helmets here that Kagavi did are the best looking designs I have ever seen. Plus a classic take on the "New" I-State logo, and the classic tornado logo. Nothing better. Simple, classic, and timeless. All the new graphic crap looks just like that, crap, looks like some side marketing company trying to make a buck. Too over done, if they stuck to versions of these classic looks it would be so much better.

SIAP if this link was posted in the thread already, Chris wrote a sound-off about the logo in a column Friday.

Let’s hash out this new secondary logo

CW’s larger point (I think) is this: Alternate logos and alt-unis are a recruiting gizmo.

Valid.

I could say many things about the subject, but I’ll keep it brief: Not every design-tweak is automatically Golden. And this logo is awful.

A) why are we outsourcing a design, we have a college of design. It's pretty simple: It's like my marketing department at work. I toss the responsibility to the youngest hippest coolest employee. In this case, tell the College of Design to find their best student, interview them to to see if they can socially survive outside of a textbook. Tell them to make it look cool, give them 3 days to work on it. Have department head check in from time to time to see if they need any guidance.

B) My 13 year old pointed this out last night. In an end all mascot war it is fairly certain the Cyclones would match up with the Hurricanes in the national championship. Should we not have the most fierce terrifying unbelievably intimidating logo in the history of college sports?

The last time we insourced a logo with the College of Design, we ended up with this logo:

This logo seems so POPULAR with this fan base.

The really funny thing is? The more "over the top" fans hate on this logo, the more I like it - and I'm not a really big fan of the logo. There is absolutely nothing but 100% butthurt that JP isn't going back to the Criner tornado.

Make me.

No relativism here......I suppose that if you were from an alternate universe where crap smelled good and bad things were good....you could say this logo was good.

This logo is bad.
This. The logo just sucks, period. Lol at people try to defend its “design concepts” - it was “designed” horribly.

The 80’s logo is timelines. Simple, flat, recognizable. Applies in all situations. The fricken new logo has 3 colors in it!! Ooooo, “depth” and “shadowing” are SO important. Lol! It looks like a high school logo. It really does.

I'm not in marketing, so can someone explain what kind of "testing" is done on these logos before they are launched? I know you want to keep it a secret for some reason, but when you are spending big money on adding a secondary logo, you have to run it through a bunch of people for opinions, right?

Because I don't trust JP to make graphic design decisions, sorry.

At work on Friday, nobody even gave me crap about the game, they just laughed at what a joke that thing on our helmet was? Yes, it was embarrassing. Such a fail at all levels.

So we have this huge game on a Thursday night in front of national TV, and this is the new element to our uniform we decided to unveil? Not a gold helmet with a chrome cardinal facemask or something? Heck, just add that middle stripe that our white helmet has to the cardinal helmet, that would even make a big difference that would look better.

At first I didn't mind the gray, but now it's already wearing on me and it isn't a good look IMO. Please just add a gold (yellow, whatever) helmet with the red stenciled logo on it and cardinal facemask first, also add the middle stripe that the white helmet has to all 3 helmets, if for no other reason than consistency (but it looks WAY better too IMO).

I know a lot of people don't care for it, but I would have rather seen us come out in all yellow Thursday night. Or a G-C-G look, or G-C-C. But instead we come out with possibly our worst combo we currently have, and a new s**t logo to boot. Our AD Marketing Dept is just a complete fail.

I almost hate to see what CMC has planned for next year. If this new logo was his idea, I'm scared to death what he's going to do.

Here's the all yellow Minnesota look. I happen to like it. Some won't, but it's WAY better than what we wore on Thursday night.....

CW misses the point, once again.

No one is objecting alternate logos. They're objecting such a cheap, poorly designed alternate logo. The fact we likely paid for such **** is a shame.

Agree completely. I don't see anyone saying we shouldn't throw an alternate logo on the helmet for one or two games a year, but you don't do it just to do it.

From CW's argument, he doesn't seem to care what it looked like as long as it was something different. I'm sorry, but you don't do it if it's garbage and looks horrible and is embarrassing.

It needs to be something good, or you don't do it.

CW speaks to us like we're children because he runs a fan site. Yes, we know why athletic departments and coaching staffs use these logos. We are all welcome to new secondary logos. We just blew it again. Red helmets, white helmets, white clothing, gray clothing, it doesn't matter. It's a **** logo, and it's OK to acknowledge it. This isn't generational. It's taste. Why should we be surprised that a guy that drinks Busch Light thinks this is a totally cool logo? You guys just don't get it.

And LOL at using Jeff Woody's endorsement as justification. Walk-on pre-meds always have their finger on the pulse.

At the game I didn't really like it but after watching the TV recording I wasn't quite so offended - in any event kagavi's is way better.

I think everything has been said. However, I liked the comment about buying a sweater with this logo on it and wearing it to an ugly sweater event this holiday season. My wife will wear a "tiger hawk" sweater and we should win the ugliest sweater contest, couples division. On general principles, I just can't bring myself to wear anything hawkeye, so she'll have to make the sacrifice for the good of the contest.

That's what gets me. I'm in my 20s and I think I have like 10 different shades of red Iowa State clothing over the years. I really don't know what we are. Cardinal, Crimson, Maroon, idk.

yep, that is so weird. why the heck did we ever go away from the Cardinal red and move to a darker, almost Minnesota Gopher maroon shade red? It is flat out ugly, especially contrasted against bright yellow. Lighten the red and go to a more gold shade of yellow. Think late 70s shade of gold, throw in some white highlights and call it good. But that dark red bright yellow two color scheme is so freaking ugly. Our away all whites with the white helmets are sharp though, they hit it out of the park on those.
