Student Section

I don't know if it's generational or what, but Cyclone Alley is a shadow of itself. We're 21-2 and have been in the top 10 for most of the year. I know it's not Kansas, but it shouldn't matter. It's a conference game on a Saturday. I see student sections in Lawrence and Provo that show up every game and are engaged and loud. Moving the seats back has had a negative effect, but it has to be more than that. Sometimes I feel like our fans don't get excited unless we're the underdog.

Says the guy that leaves religiously with three minutes thirty seconds left in each game. :jimlad:

I know you aren't talking about me. I never miss a basketball game and I never leave early.

I think it was the 12-13 Baylor game that Pollard sold some GA tickets in the studemt section to anyone because of some bad student attendance. My buddy and I were pissed because the time we normally showed up to games to get front row seats in the upper deck of the student section ended up with us in the top row of the upper deck. But that game was loud as hell and filled to the brim. Hindsight, they should have done that today.

The 4 minute time out folks missed the most nerve wracking part of the game.
As I remember it (and I was thinking about this at the game waiting for it), they didn't have the under 4 minute time out today, so I stayed until the 1 second timeout. Got stuck in Hilton departure foot traffic and post-game auto traffic to boot! / sarcasm

Pretty disappointed in our student section today that we have several empty seats for a Saturday big 12 game. Pretty Lame. Do better.
The ones not there today will be ******** about being turned away next week.

We stay till the end and with a full house don't hurry out, it did seem like the parking lots were slow emptying today. We head north afterwards swung by Pickles Pub in Kamrar for supper it was full when we arrived (445ish) and full when we left. Which was great nice to see a local business doing great, even though they were swamped our waitress was upbeat and doing good for as busy as they were.

Not a good look for a fanbase that likes to think Hilton is the best home court college. The crowd energy was also lacking, IMHO. Maybe it just doesn't come across well on tv anymore. It used to.

Turned over and watched a few minutes of the Kansas/Utah game. Crowd energy seemed way higher. Watched a few minutes of the Duke/UNC game before the women's game. Crowd was way hotter. And UNC crowds are notorious for being hand-sitters.

To me its just hard to tell sometimes because networks do the dumb decision of muting down the crowd noise on broadcasts. Drives me nuts.

UNC/Duke is a whole different level.

I don't know what it is, but from my seat on the couchm it doesn't feel like our crowd brings the energy it used to. I think we expect to win while sumultaneously holding our breath that we'll blow it.

Hoiball created an anxiety with the up and down play that was really fun in Hilton. But with TJ, we're not the cleanest offensive team, even if we're efficient. There are just fewer pops with this team. That said, I expect it to be hot next week with Kansas in town, but that's a given.

The crowd was pretty mid until about halfway through the 2nd half. Just my personal opinion from up in the top half of the balcony.
I sort of wonder if the fanbase just expects to win so they don't get into it unless it is really close later in the game? This is just a personal musing with no facts or anything, just a observation of many yrs attending games.

It wasn’t sustained throughout the game but Hilton knows when to get loud and it delivered in key moments. The peak today was when Buchanan stuffed that put back dunk. Lots of energy and noise in the second half when Baylor had the ball.
