Student Section

One last comment the Christmas Break crowds are surprisingly good for the quality of opponent we are playing. Students are gone and families buy those lower level seats for their one game a yr Christmas present, those families show up and are glad to be in Hilton and have fun cheering. Is it the same as a full student section when a big game comes to town no, but do those families have fun and make for a good environment on a so-so game yes they do. Plus never hurts to ingrain Cyclone fandom onto the young ones. :)
Not only do they full the lower bowl, they fill the balcony.

I love having season tickets, but I have to admit I have just a twinge of jealousy for the folks down behind the baskets for those games. But then I remember I get to go to every game and all is well again. It proves the strength of our program how well those Christmas break games sell. IMO.

The student section is certainly a skeleton of its former self but also when I'm watching on TV all I see are people sitting down with their arms crossed. When we score or the other team fouls or something they make noise but otherwise people in the bottom bowl just sit on their butts waiting for stuff to happen.

I get it for the buy games when we're up 30 but when we're struggling the fans gotta stop be so f*ckin lazy.

Do we still do the ticket lottery for freshman? If so, get rid of it and oversell the student section even more. Let as many freshmen as possible go and it will pay off in the future.

They were beating the undefeated #2 team in the country, we were beating 13-10 Baylor, 12-9 Colorado, and unranked UCF. Slightly different.
Go check out their game vs utah yesterday. Louder than any game in Hilton this year. Now that’s not really a standard to expect though cause Phog Allen is the best of the best.

Not a good look for a fanbase that likes to think Hilton is the best home court college. The crowd energy was also lacking, IMHO. Maybe it just doesn't come across well on tv anymore. It used to.

Turned over and watched a few minutes of the Kansas/Utah game. Crowd energy seemed way higher. Watched a few minutes of the Duke/UNC game before the women's game. Crowd was way hotter. And UNC crowds are notorious for being hand-sitters.
Your post is invalid. Watching from tv is limp **** energy on your part.

Sometimes I wonder if NIL era is having an impact on non athlete students interest in going to the games. They don't have the opportunity to be paid the big dollars and receive a free education with benefits.

I know watching 3/4's of the football team leaving for greener pastures instead of being committed to the school bothered a number of folks.

I'd guess student attendance is similar to the rest of the crowd. But, due to the general admission if those tickets l, they all consolidate towards the bottom rows so you see a big section if empty seats at the top of the arena. The empty seats from non-students are just spread out so it's not as noticeable.
