I'm here to complain once again about the movement of the student section. I think it is really impacting the atmosphere in Jack Trice. They are so disconnected from the band, and the band and student sections across the country go hand in hand. No more cowbell, no more Cyclone Power chants.

I'm just kind of ranting at this point, but not sure if anyone else has noticed these things?

@ChrisMWilliams mentioned in a podcast that the move might not have been entirely up to ISU, and that the conference may have encouraged it due to past incidents between fans and the opposing teams while trying to get off the field.

I know you're just sharing what has been said, but there is no way the Big 12 Conference was the driving factor behind moving the student section.

that may be true, but Baylor's student section (which is defined seating compared to the rest of McLane stadium) is right behind the visitor's bench as well...same with K-State's, and Kansas'

I hadn't noticed until the first post that the Cyclone Power chant was gone. From my seats in the NW part of the stadium I thought the students seemed plenty loud to open the game. After that, it wasn't as obvious, but then there wasn't as much to get excited about.

It absolutely was almost exclusively a Big 12 decision. It all had to do with field storms and imaginary issues that people came up with.

I was critical of the environment for the first two games but I thought it was better this week. Still a downgrade but it is workable.

I dunno. Hilton has as I call it a "tunnel condom" now. There is a big black accordion style tunnel that is used for the opposing team.

The reason the Cyclone Power chant has died is because nobody at ISU knows how to coordinate a pregame environment. I've noticed that the band and cheer squad are still attempting to coordinate the chant this season... while they simultaneously drown out any ability to hear with blasting noise from the scoreboard. It's completely killed the chant.

It really doesn't need to be this hard. Less is more (see VT pregame). But we cram so much nonsense and a dozen different entrance songs into the pregame, it's a total cluster.

The Cyclone Power chant is really cool in that stadium, but it can't compete with earsplitting noise from the scoreboard.

Those videos of a fan trucking a Texas player and a Texas player shoving a fan might very well result in a fine for one program and a suspension for a player. Can't say as I am surprised after hearing how terrible it is to play at Tech from players.

The Big 12 demanded changes after "unprofessional fans". ISU wasn't going to get any more gimmes after that one despite there really being no issues at that one.

We were fined once. They went up quite fast in price of fines. I think the easiest would have been to flip them to the other side. Probably ticked off that side of people but would have solved the field/other team issue.

I don't know that it was. I have no info other than what Chris said in the podcast. That said, I'm sure pressure can be applied by the conference on stuff like this, without it being an explicit directive

AND THIS.
I used to wear my headphones to hear the radio broadcast. While that's the main reason, I'm also glad I have them so my ears don't bleed from that godawful blaring, screening insane decibel level crap from the main speaker.

I noticed the band was pushing the issue on playing before plays. They have been following the rules for years and cutting off when the opponent got into formation ready to snap the ball. Yesterday they were playing until the play clock got down in the 8-6 second range. That is against the rules but it hasn't been enforced when other teams have done this regularly against ISU. I was waiting for that to get flagged as well but they never did.

If they aren't going to call it and others are doing it to you, might as well do it too.

They need to install bleachers/seating on the NW corner of the stadium, where the grass hill currently is, and place students there. Moves students next to the band, on the ISU side. Would also free up additional seating for season ticket holders.

The students next to the Sukup Club is lame, because the Sukup club is almost always half empty and quiet. It kills the atmosphere to move the student section to where it is now, and I don't think it gets nearly as loud as it used to.

I could see how having the students in that corner could lessen the sound. Before, they were yelling towards the bowl so the sound could bounce around a little. Now they would be yelling in the direction where the sound would escape the stadium through the North Endzone.
