Did not see that coming (especially as this point in the season) - this staff definitely isn't for everyone - this sucks because Kanen is a very talented wrestler - but this also frees up some money and another wrestler in the log jam of 133-149

Same thing I am wondering. Now I know he needs to do what's best for himself but that's a real b**** thing to do at this point in time.

Yeah, I'm sure this wasn't a decision made lightly because he's walking away with only like a month and a half left of the season. So something happened that made him decide it was better to leave now than wait until after the season was over.

Immediate granting of release sure has the feel of "by all means, get the h*** out." At least that's how I'd read it.

Ehh, I don't know about that. I just think it's more that they understand that Storr didn't come to ISU to wrestle for this coaching staff. This staff needs their guys and wrestlers who are 100% bought in to what they're doing, and Storr needs to go somewhere he wants to be.

Also, nothing but bad publicity comes from holding out on transfer requests.

I'm wondering what happened that made him decide to pack up his bags now instead of finishing out the season and transferring next year
He's not friends with J Park, is he?

Relax, just kidding, sorry to see him go.

Dresser quotes from before break-

“The great ones come back better because they’re refreshed,” Dresser said. “The ones who want to be great and are all lip service, their cards will be shown.”

“If you don’t want to rock and roll then stay home with grandma.”

You wonder in retrospect if they were directed at Storr

This is concerning. Dresser was just talking about Storr and Degen wrestling for titles, and he’s out the door in a week. I know Storr wasn’t a Dresser guy but he was one of the first to buy in. Now he’s gone. I have to ask who is a Dresser guy? Outside of Degen no other VT guys even thought about coming here, recruits or guys on roster. Honestly if Carr wasn’t legacy would he be on his way? Dresser said he and the coaches can’t do the wrestling. They may have to if this continues.

He was just talking about Degen and Storr winning titles. I doubt it was in reference to Storr.

Yeah this is a head scratcher... as he was all-in from day one. although who knows what happened here, maybe there is a family or personal situation and he wants to move closer to home. By all accounts he was a great kid, I wish him the best and hope everything is ok.

I don't think we'll know the full situation until we find out who else does or doesn't transfer after the season is over.

Or Pat Downey? Seriously, would he even consider transferring to the team out east? You know Brands would take him, if only to spite Dresser.

Here’s another Dresser quote about Storr from the pre-season press conference-

“He’s a little bit of a mystery to me. Because if I watch him in the room, I wouldn’t predict the results he has when he competes…..I wish we could get a little more of that out of him in the room.”

6:50 mark-

Also some interesting quotes about Parker/Simmons at the 2:00 mark.

Freeing up money is good and all but he was a top recruit and had a really good redshirt season last year. Better to actually have a guy like that on campus and wrestling than hoping you might be able to get a recruit who can contribute in a couple of years.

Agreed. This hurts...no getting around it. That's the only bright side I can come up with. Hopefully a strong Parker at 141 isn't too much of a drop off.

I’m not sure he has been “all in “ based on numerous comments about his work ethic weight management etc. In Sunday’s match the staff told him in the 3rd period to keep him down and Storr immediately cut the guy. Tried to walk away from Dresser after the match looked like something was said and then Metcalf grabbed him. Later Zadick sat talking with him calmly for a long time. Just a guess but this may have been brewing for awhile.

He has seen two styles of leadership...the cool, laid back guy and the not so much. It's always harder to adapt to the hardcore guys. Nothing against Storr...I thought he was going to be a great one for you all for the next four years. However, the sooner the ones that don't want to be there get out, the better because this staff will produce dividends for those that want to be there.
