Stop!

King can play as much as 30 minutes if need be. Not only is he capable but he can be productive in doing so.

I don't dispute fouls are a constant problem with this team. When it necessitates you play guys like Ward and Bob when you NEED to play them. But there have been plenty of games where fouls were fairly dispersed and we can largely play the aforementioned 7 the majority of the minutes. When that can't work, shift the minutes accordingly.

Basically the point is you plan on playing the primary 7 guys while making adjustments based on fouls/injuries. Currently we are bringing Bob in when it's completely unecessary. That's what needs to change.

It's always a bad idea to give an unproductive player productive players minutes. Always.
Shoon and Bob completely neutralized KJ and their second big. Those two couldn’t do anything all day. Tre was then able to cook smaller guys on him because he was playing the 4 instead of the 5.

You are talking in absolutes like you know doing anything else would yield better results than what we currently have. You don’t know what you are talking about. Ward doesn’t understand our defense (particularly ball screens) and we aren’t going to go small with Tre when we currently go small with Shoon and the starting lineup.

It’s not possible to exert the overall energy we do with 7 players. You say Tre could play 30 minutes? Yesterday he was GASSED multiple times in the game because our bigs are exerting the most energy in that we switch essentially everything.

I guess, I don't know, just weird timing since thats the most dominate game we've had in years against KU and Jones had a decent game yesterday.
We played an overall A game and beat a top 10 rival and we have people (sort of just one guy) who honestly believes he has more knowledge than TJ, the coach who ran circles around a Hall of Famer yesterday.

Yeah, I dont really understand it either, I thought Big Rob actually had his best game since the first Tech game over 3 weeks ago. Just weird timing to be ripping on the guy.

I think ZRF plays OG Super Mario Bros. the whole way through and since Mario has full energy by the end, that's how basketball works.

I don't have any other ideas as to how they keep with the 'just have them play 30 minutes' takes even though players would be fouled out or not able to run the length of the floor any more. Especially in year 2 of a rebuild in a conference that most games are a physical mess.

He is a great character person and gels with the team well. But for being a 4th year player, he’s making plays one would expect from a freshman. He has to learn that if he had the ball in his hands near the basket, but doesn’t have a great look, it’s ok to pass the ball back out to the perimeter. I honestly don’t recall the last time he did that. It seems he will always put up a shot no matter how well defended he may be.

I think a lot of angst will be lifted if he learns to pass it back out when he is well defended. But he made a terrific play in the first half yesterday by stealing the ball, then ran the court and then capped the play with a nice reverse layup. So he’s not all bad
Passing the ball back out..... its almost uncanny as if he's never been told that before.
Love his hustle, defense, bench role. Just wish he'd figure out the above.

I'd like to know the 'behind the scenes' of what happened between Monday and yesterday because TJ and staff managing all that is involved in that, from tactic to the mental and emotional piece, is not being appreciated enough.

If TJ saw his recommendations he’d roll his eyes comically.

It’s a testament to the staff and the players for buying into the system in place. Never too high, never too low. You have to have that especially in this conference when you legitimately don’t have a break. Credit to everyone because man, it could’ve been an easy game to come out flat for after that debacle Monday. Glad we have till Wednesday to get ready for Morgantown.

Not reading the entire thread, so sorry if already discussed. It was mentioned during the game yesterday that he shoots around 50% at the rim. That is not good. Multiply that with turnovers while he dribbles off of his foot or can't catch a pass from a driving guard. If he would learn to pass the ball out of the post, instead of shooting or driving every time he touches the ball in the post, it would make his minutes much more valuable. Anything that is contested for him is pretty much an automatic miss and wasted possession. Nothing against the kid, but he is an offensive black hole.

I think if Tre King played more minutes, he'd foul out. Sometimes he just tries to bully through people. But glad we have him for those 16-20 minutes he plays. Hope he can make more moves and mid range shots like he did yesterday's first half. And help us with rebounding.

It has been pointed out that Jones said in an interview that he doesn't like "Bob" and prefers to be called "Rob". Whether you think he is doing well or not, please respect the Cyclone who is giving his all and call him by the name by which he wants to be known.

TIA
So a sign from Saturday's game . . . . . Rob the Builder
