Stop!

He is a great character person and gels with the team well. But for being a 4th year player, he’s making plays one would expect from a freshman. He has to learn that if he had the ball in his hands near the basket, but doesn’t have a great look, it’s ok to pass the ball back out to the perimeter. I honestly don’t recall the last time he did that. It seems he will always put up a shot no matter how well defended he may be.

I think a lot of angst will be lifted if he learns to pass it back out when he is well defended. But he made a terrific play in the first half yesterday by stealing the ball, then ran the court and then capped the play with a nice reverse layup. So he’s not all bad

Imagine taking the time to write this

Needs to be said. Guy behind me at games is doing one of two things:

1. Complaining about jones
2. Demonstrating he doesn’t know the rules of the game

It’s getting annoying. The guy is giving all he’s got for the program and Osun can’t play 40 MPG.

I really like King but he is a PF not a center. With our aggressive pressure outside we need a shot changer near the rim. Osun, Jones, and Ward fill that spot.

Ideally, yes. But he is a whooping 2 inches shorter than Jones who plays smaller anyway either the hunch and miniscule vertical. King has the size, armspan (probably as long as BRE there), and ability to guard the post. If you were t paying attention he scored the majority of his points operating from the post position. Then there is the fact that the Big 12, and college basketball in general, lacks centers/5s/true post players. King can absolutely handle playing the position for most of the 15-20 minutes Osun is on the bench.

I've seen Jones called a lot of things, but a shot changer (has 9 blocks on the year)? And Ward, who often doesn't play? No reason King can't play the 5, especially with Kunc back. We'd be a much better if BRE was a 5-7 minute a game player (some games less).

I actually forgot about Ward. Don't think he played at all with Jaz, back. I don't see him hanging around if his minutes don't increase, but don't know how much time he has left and if he can transfer again and still play.

You should be our coach, fire TJ immediately.

Ward has a year if he wants. He won’t transfer again unless he’s fine with sitting out a full year. I think he can be fine tuned this entire offseason

Rob hustles and gives gives incredible effort. And he also has some nice post moves honestly. He just is not good at putting the ball in the basket around the rim. Very little touch and eye hand coordination it seems. If he could get that part done, he'd really be a good player.

For me, I can appreciate how hard Rob plays but I also know that the more minutes he gets, the more limited we are, especially offensively.

He’s shooting 36% from the floor in conference at a position where you generally see higher shooting percentages since most shots are taken right by the basket. He’s a 40% FT shooter which is horrendous at the college level and blows my mind more teams don’t take advantage of that.

He also is averaging 3 rebounds in 16 minutes per game in conference which I would imagine puts him on the lower end of that stat too.

He sure is. And sometimes that isn't enough......and why he gets 15 minutes or less a game.

It's not a crime to be an average player who knows his role. And it's not ignorance to recognize that.
Guess it comes down to a glass half full or half empty thing.

I choose to praise Rob for the things he has control over - his incredible effort, attitude, and toughness that is the personification of what Iowa State's program is all about. You choose to critique him for his lack of offensive skills.

At the end of the day, we're both correct.

I'm neutral on Jones right now.

The bigger issue is why he's the top trending topic on here right now after we just dominated Kansas?
I'm fine with Bob if he realizes that he doesn't need to shoot every time he gets the ball within 10 foot of the basket. There are too many forced shots that aren't even close and then we don't have a rebounder.

He is playing because he is the best option we have at backup center.
