For jumping ahead it’s hard to say. Is it better that known heroes are just old people like lando/han/leia/Luke in recent movies or better that Luke is some legend from many 100s of years ago.

In the walking dead comics there is a 10 year time jump that is awesome. They couldn’t do it on show and keep cranking out episodes and I think show would have been better off actually taking 10 year break at its peak and coming back accurately vs what happened.

For the real nerds out there, people love the Old Republic video games. You probably can't quite make a show out of them, but honestly I can clearly picture cutscenes with old Mandalorians at the height of the culture and man it was awesome. But I was thrilled to just see something else.

She also said the future of SW is on TV, not movies.

Last I checked, The Acolyte series is still a go and that is supposed to be set in High Republic Era (200 year before the films, not 100 like I previously said). They invested a decent amount of time and content in this era already, so I'm betting they try to leverage that era for a film if The Acolyte does well.

All the stuff with Ulic Qel-droma and Exar Kun set 4-5000 years before the films were great. Exar Kun was first introduced as a long dead Force user who trapped his spirit in the temples on Yavin IV and messed with Luke's students when he started his academy there.

Sorry, she might not have said that exactly, but that's what most of the people took away from Celebration this year. The film department is kinda unsteady, to say the least, and the TV shows are carrying the torch.

Yeah that was it. I have them stashed away somewhere.

I'm surprised they don't lean into comics more, canned focus group data. Some comics well loved and remembered, others forgotten.

I also agree with whomever just said "if you don't like this one, wait until the next one you might like because there are going to be tons". That's really the truth of it. For years the entire on screen legacy was 5 hours of movie that was 100/100 vs anything comparable. Now that it's closer to 100 hours on screen (not even counting animation) it's not all going to be fantastic. Look at long running scifi tv series like X-Files or star trek. If 2/3 of it is great you're knocking it out of the park. If half of it is good that will work, when less than half is good you're in the danger zone. I'd say new movies are in that less than half zone but the new streaming series are in the 2/3 good zone so far. I liked vast majority of Mando episodes, about half of Boba Fett episodes, and 2 of the 3 Obi-Wan so far.

Given what masses often like at the box office that may be a good thing for quality, especially for movies with tons of sequels.
 
Clueless Kathy should be shown the door. She has proven she doesn't get Star Wars - hired directors just to fire them for rewrites (sometimes wholesale) and cut out things she didn't think would work. I was on board with TFA and even defended it, but the cluster f story and lack of any real character development made the two movies after it hard to reconcile and indefensible. JJ/RJ did a heck of a job constructing a story that was just one bad twist into a plot hole after another. There were cool moments in a sea of forgettable. Starts with decisions from the top. Kennedy doubled down on "no real source material to draw from" in her most recent interview... I guess all those comics and books I consumed over the years didn't happen.

Favreau and Filoni get it and understand the story has to make sense first and foremost. Fans are impulsive and impatient, but as Mando shows, they're willing to invest if the story makes some sort of coherent sense. George knew the story has to be great or the look and feel won't matter. They've shown ability to cherry pick the best parts from the old EU books/comics and work them in if they fit the story. There are a ton of characters and plot elements to draw on, but Kennedy wants to bury her head in the sand and push 'new' stories with High Republic (spoiler, they're trash). Disney/Lucasfilm could mend a lot of fences with fans if they replace Kennedy with either of these two, which I hope happens sooner than later.

As it should be, the Obi-Wan series will be judged at the end. They have to thread the needle to make sure ANH doesn't lose anything. They have a long way to go to get Kenobi back to where he is in Rebels let alone ANH. Don't over-use Vader either - it may turn out to be a mistake if the Inquisitors are just background ******* they pulled in from Rebels and they don't do anything meaningfully evil. I think Reva could get there, but think she's in for a turn back to the light side via sacrifice later on. I predict Leia will begin to turn her with her wit and sharp tonged criticism that will cause Reva to reconsider.
 
3 was good. More story building and hints. Kind of setting up and or to be the underground Jedi smuggling story. And droppping Quinlan Vos name hopefully means he shows up in this series. Probably helps obiwan get leia back.

Awesome Vader action was awesome. Really wish they would do a Vader series like he is in the comics.

My only nitpick was that they didn't use a blend of Hayden and James Earl voices to make Vader's voice. Seems like a waste of Hayden so far.
 
Starting Obi-Wan tonight. Anyone mind filling me on when this takes place in the SW timeline and other essential info/details? I’m not a super SW nerd but little JM and I enjoy SW but need a little help at times so I explain to him what’s going on.

Got through episode 2. I give it a solid B. Good, not great. But little JM LOVES it because of Leia so it’s a win in my book. He didn’t like that I accused him of having a celebrity crush. I’m a bad parent, I know. Lol

what the genesis of those Inquisitor people and what’s their deal? Why does the one chick especially hate Obi-Wan?

We don’t know yet, but it’s a good guess that Reva is a former Jedi youngling who survived Order 66. All of the Inquisitor people are likely that case or at least force sensitive people who have been manipulated by Vader. Evidence for this is starting the series with killing younglings (LFG!) and Reva knowing that Vader is Anakin Skywalker.

I don't know that any of that needs a spoiler tag. The Inquisitors started in the Rebels series. The grand inquisitor was a Jedi temple guard who went to the dark side after order 66. Rebels takes place after this series, so either the grand inquisitor isn't dead or it's not the same character from the Rebs series. I guess we'll see.

Palaptine started the inquisitors to hunt down Jedi. They aren't technically sith because of the rule of two thing, but they may as well be. They are made up of either Jedi that Palpatine turned or young force sensitive children that were kidnapped and trained to be inquisitors.

As for the Reva, we don't really know why she hates Kenobi yet. She is a new character with this series. But I think she was one of the kids from the opening sequence of the series where they showed the battle at the temple during order 66. There was a young black girl in the group of young trainees they showed. I'm guessing she feels betrayed by Kenobi and the Jedi leaving them to die during order 66 and that's what leads to her turning to the dark side. Thats just conjecture on my part, but it makes a lot of sense IMO.
