Stadium updates!

There are concrete seating-steps in place in the SE corner of the new SEZ!! Bottom 4-5 rows in place!

It was astro turf I believe when the stadium was built. When Jacobsen donated the money for the Jacobsen building, the grass was put in at the same time.

If you sat at the bottom of the stadium, there was so much crown you could only see waist up on a player on the other side of the field.... Much better with the grass.

At bottom of link it mentions when grass was installed

"The stadium complex was transformed in 1995-96 with the construction of the state-of-the-art Richard O. Jacobson Athletic Building. The home of Iowa State’s football program includes football offices, team meeting rooms, locker rooms, an auditorium and a natural grass field that debuted with the 1996 season opener."

Probably a dumb question, but is it possible to do just the end zones or letters in Field Turf while leaving the rest of the field natural?

Daktonics had a press release last week about the project. The two ribbon boards are each approximately 4' x 623'. http://www.daktronics.com/news/Pages/Iowa State Adding to Stadium With Daktronics.aspx

 Link does not appear to be working. Sorry. I need a tutorial on how to link stuff to CF. Hopefully someone can help me out. It is under the "news" at the Daktronics website. The release is dated February 27, 2015.

623 feet of ribbon board times 2. Damn near a quarter mile. That's a lot of ads (and revenue).

Oh man this is exiting! Can't wait to see it all. We actually got upper SEZ tickets this year due to budget issues so I'm excited to see how it all works out.

Does daktronics also create the software to operate and post things on the boards?

I'm going to have to make the 10ish hour journey from Detroit to see a game at the renovated Jack Trice Stadium. I've been envisioning a renovated SEZ sicne I was a student attending games more than a decade ago, and now it's almost a reality.

This fall/winter I can also begin looking for the Jack Trice Stadium panoramic photograph that will adorn the walls of my man cave/office/art studio

The old turf was terrible - like indoor/outdoor carpet glued directly to a concrete slab.

You aren't kidding. Practicing every day on that surface was rough. I actually missed two-a-days when we spent a lot of time on grass outside the stadium.

I know you were one of my old HS coaches (although I still can't remember which), but I didn't realize you were at ISU for the old turf...

You guys realize ribbon boards suck right? They're used 95% for advertising and are annoying as hell. I don't get why anybody would be excited about more advertising going into a stadium?
For one: More money for the program that us fans don't have to give directly to compete.
For two: They are used for showing stats and flash at times to help the fan get involved.
