I am trying to plan a father/daughters trip to St Louis for a Cards game for my husband and girls. Any recommendations for hotels close to the ball park? It is a Sat night game so would get into town and check in, then head to the game. Sunday they may go visit the arch.

Any good tips on getting tickets? I may just order directly. Looking at the Aug 4th game.

when we went to st louis for the cards we would stay at the hilton by the ballpark on south broadway. it is right across the street from the ballpark. easy to walk to and also walking distance from the arch.

For tickets I have had VERY good luck using Stub Hub. Will give you access to better seats than buying direct and normally you can get them for a reasonable price.

Or I would stay at the Chase Park plaza, its about a $10 cab ride each way to the stadium. The hotel has a bunch of nice resturants and bars all around. Its in a really neat area.
 
I have been down there several times over the last five years to watch my Cubs lose to St. Louis....I like the Drury Inn and Suites it is really close to the ballpark and also very close to the main drag that takes you into the city...traffic and congestion wise it is a good choice, plus they offer free shuttles to the ballpark on weekends.

You can go to the Drury Inn in West Des Moines by the Super target on Mills Civic, and they will book it for you locally as well, it sometimes is nice to have a face to talk to when booking a hotel to ensure you get what you want. The rates are competitive with other hotels in the area.
 
I live in St Louis. If you want to save some money, stay in the South County or West County area. its a 25 to 30 minutes drive to the downtown however.
 
Thanks for the suggestions, starting to look at hotels online. Will probably look close to the ballpark or at least with a shuttle since it will be a quick weekend trip. If I get everything set up, then hubby can't say no. ;) My 9 yr old just about blew a gasket when I told her it may be a possibility--she said it was a dream come true to see the Cardinals.

ETA--not needing much more than a place to stay with free parking and free breakfast. It will be hubby and 2 girls age 9 & 7, may see if his Dad wants to go with them. It will be a late night after the game and they will checkout the next morning.

Millenium Hotel - St. Louis
 
Stay at the casino. Short walk to the game. There is a Four Seasons and then a lower priced one as well, both are nice.
 
The Hilton. It's the double towered building beyond right field. Ask for a stadium view. Parking garage right there on Broadway. Multiple options for eating all around.
 
The closest Drury is booked for the night we want to go. I did book the Millenium deal with option to cancel-- the hotel gets horrible reviews, parking is $18 a day and hard to get to, no breakfast. Location is the only thing going for it.

I also booked a room about 5 miles away near the zoo on the Metrolink. Free parking, free breakfast for about the same price.

Any other good downtown deals under $125 or so? Hilton is $209 a night.
 
We've stayed further out and in downtown. Near the ballpark we stayed at the Hilton and Millennium hotels. Both excellent and certain floors/sides can see right into the stadium from your room.

Further out we stayed at hotels by the airport and caught the Metro down to the stadium. $2 each way I believe.

Edit: bummer about Millennium. I think parking was free (or a lot cheaper) last time we were there. Had a good experience at the hotel as well.

The area near the zoo is fantastic. I lived in the Central West End for a summer, was a block from the park which has the zoo. The park is very nice and open, easy to get around. How old are your girls? Might check out the City Museum as well if they have time during the day of a night game. http://www.citymuseum.org/site/ It's pretty much an indoor playground for kids and adults to learn about stuff.

My girls are 9 & 7. They may have time depending when they leave Ames on Sat. The second hotel I booked is the Comfort Inn/Choice in Central West End. I'm assuming the Metrolink runs right by there? Would go back downtown on Sunday to see the arch.

The price on the Millenium was great--$79, but leery with the reviews it gets.
 
There is a Metrolink in the middle of the hospital complex just south of Forest Park Blvd. I lived on Pine Ave, 2 blocks south of Lindell and could walk to the Metro in five minutes. Looking at the map below (The "A" balloon is the Comfort Inn), they would walk along Euclid (south), into the hospital complex, and the Metrolink is straight ahead. Metrolink drops them off across the street from the 3rd base side of the stadium, and also runs directly to the Arch. The CWE area is very safe, clean, lots of young medical students live in the area, easy to get around.

If they want to drive downtown, it's a straight shot on I-64 to downtown. I'd recommend $5 gameday parking at the ramp on the SE corner of 7th & Pine. Easy in and out, $5, 3 blocks to the stadium. Most other parking around the stadium will run $15+, most $20+.
