South Dakota Pregame Thread

Thinking this is the reason there are still tickets available. Would shock me if its not a sell out though. probably happen by wednesday/thursday
I wonder how they are doing on season ticket sells overall, I have not received or seen much for numbers, and I do not believe we have sold out any games, maybe the EIU one at most.

Starting to get the feeling that we are tapped out of the number of fans that are willing and able to purchase tickets and really need to grow the fanbase. To grow the fanbase we really need to go on a 3 to 5 year winning streak like we started last year, win the conference and get into the playoff a couple of times. The slowing down of the economy is not helping the matter either.

This SHOULD be a sellout...coming off a top 25 win over a rival, first home game of the year....USD will be well represented too....I think they're the closest FCS school to Ames outside of Drake and UNI. Plus I think they always bring their band to these bigger games.

Anyway, the forecast is looking pretty good for Saturday. Excited to pack the Jack!

It's darn close to being sold out, there aren't many face value seats left.

Season tickets were definitely down by a decent amount. This was the most available seats between the 30's in the lower bowl than I can ever remember seeing. Where I fell int he parking pecking order also reflected a down tick.

While I dont entirely disagree with the premise of growing the fanbase, i think this might be a slight overreaction on your part. I dont know if it is this serious of an issue, YET

We are coming off the best season in school history with a large part of the offense and defense returning, and we have sold out few if any games as of today. I get that people spent their budget on going to Ireland, but you would think that we have enough fans to do that and still sell out every game by now. I am not sure that we do. While over east they sold out most of their games last month.

Will we keep the regular practice, film & weight room routine this week, or any alterations, like an extra day off, due to travel & jet lag ?
I think on the pod before the KSU game. They mentioned that they tried to keep on the same schedule for Ireland that they do in the US since they wanted week 1* to feel like a normal week once they got back to Iowa.

Only lose this game if the boys come out flat or some bad weather changes it. I am not worried about one. I spoke with one of there coaches over the summer and they are not expecting great things this season.

Actually expecting a very good season with Bouman coming back.

Calling my shot now but we are gonna absolutely handle USD.

I think it will go how these games usually go:

The starters on the best FCS teams are really good players, guys who could play on a lot of P4 teams. So maybe they hang with you early. The problem is your starters can't play every snap, and when the backups come in, the P4 team still has P4-caliber players on the field, the FCS team usually doesn't.

35-13 good guys!

Yeah- in typical Matt Campbell vs FCS style, it'll probably be 14-13 at half and everyone will be freaking out.

I do think that the ticket price increase pushed some people to drop their season tickets.

Looking at parking right now it appears that parking is sold out as lowest available parking is like $90 from resale.

Our FCS game hasn't been a close game since 2021, people need to let the narrative die. Last year was weird, ND had a drive that chewed off almost an entire qtr that yielded zero points. We got up 14-3 and it never felt like ND was ever going to be a threat to score.

Iowa State's success in football is still so new to even native Iowans.....any sort of success that McCarney and Rhoads had didn't last....Campbell's success has lasted much longer, aside from the 2022 season.

Iowa has had a consistent program with two HC's combining for over 45 years of coaching. It's essentially like having two Bill Snyder's in back to back tenures.

I do think that more kids are growing up to be Iowa State fans. I went to a small school in Boone and even though my class size was like 25 kids, I was one of maybe 4 that would wear Iowa State on the Friday before the CyHawk game. The casual interest still leans Iowa but even judging from shirts you see at the State Fair (not an entirely great metric but Iowans come from all over for the fair), Iowa State is closing that gap.

Without a doubt, ISU is closing the gap, but Campbell has been here a number of years, and the program has never been more successful than where he has taken them, and we are still struggling to sell out games in advance. Ticket prices did rise, the economy is struggling but through all of that, we should not be finding it this difficult to get sell outs by now.

Maybe it comes back to that lost generation of fans from the 80s and 90s that are now adults and should have the money to purchase tickets but just aren't, because they grew up in a time when ISU struggled to get wins, and therefore are just not fans or became EIU fans.

It also doesn't help that kids these days have a million damn activities every weekend. Everyone I know with kids is busy spending all their free time dragging them to this and that. Back in my day that was def not the case.
