SoundOFF 1,000

I think sound off deserves more credit than its gotten lately. Yes it may not be as good as it was 10 years ago, but it's a great outlet for local sports/culture and has provided countless amounts of amazing material over the years. I really liked the Juice article on the show as Murphy deserves so much credit and praise for what he's put into the shoe over the years, and being loyal to the community while maintaining a top notch quality show instead of leaving for the 'next' big thing.
Totally agree. Murph has been a class act all along in his tenure with Des Moines media. Yeah, the show has taken a little bit of a dive since the Hassel skits are no longer a mainstay, but him, Sears and Fales are trying (successfully, to a point) to keep this show fresh and entertaining. I don't know about anyone else, but I do fancy an occasional laugh to their Decorah eagles coverage. The show last night was just what it needed to be, and it's cool to see how its progressed over the last 20 years.

Wait, I thought we were boycotting Soundoff. Did someone update the list?

I had been podcasting Soundoff and their radio shows for many years but I'm done with it after the combo of defending the atrocious Sears interview of recruit Allen Lazard and having a huge celebration about ISU being worse than Iowa in basketball this year that turned out to be complete nonsense.

I still love me some Stiver's Ford parody but their sports takes aren't what they used to be in terms of telling it straight without ISU/Iowa bias.

I like Keith. I like Andy. Admire's okay but Hazzle Dazzle productions were a tough act to follow.

Sears can take a long walk off a short pier.

Stopped years ago. Too much squawks. I must admit when the Cyclones rough them up I will turn it on.

Not a fan of Sears. Just don't like the fake sportscaster jive in his presentation - the high pitched emphasis on certain words, the noises, etc. Like nails on a chalkboard. I'm surprised he's lasted this long.

Pretty good show last night however it reminded me of the hole that the show now has without Hassle. I don’t know if you can ever fill that. Also, kudos to him for coming back and doing the highlight show. People in the media often are pretty ego driven and I don’t think it is too much of a stretch to say others in similar circumstances (i.e…having moved on to ESPN), would not come back and take the time to do this. I’m guessing he had to use his vacation time.

Is there anywhere you can see a re-air of the whole episode? I see there are a bunch of clips but I am sure those don't cover the whole show.

Good show last night. Just imagine how many more Hassel moments we have missed out on by him leaving for ESPN. My all-time favorite might be when Andy did the MegaDoppler rant. I remember watching that one live the first time and like Keith I almost fell off my chair laughing at it. He used to do a character called Gippy who was a NASCAR driver or fan or something that was right up there with Cooter Ray and LeBoner as funny stuff.

Also I know they played this one on Today in Iowa last week but this is probably one of Hassel's best bits too: http://whotv.com/2012/09/24/hazzle-dazzle-09242012/

I don't watch SoundOff that much anymore, I usually just catch the clips online now but it was appointment TV for me in the early years of the show. Wish they had a segment on some of their callers, Chris from Green Bay and Tommy from Des Moines were always good for a few laughs.

I'm not a Hassel hater by any means. In fact, I couldn't pick him out of a lineup. Don't really know anything about him. But the links posted with his stuff here I have t found funny in the least. I'm hoping that's not the best he's done (I will say, I did laugh when he did the Tavern Hawk impression on ESPN after the basketball game. I actually thought that was really funny.)
