Solomon Young is a hidden gem

I hope Young is a hidden gem. Fanbases with lower ranked recruiting classes nearly always call them underrated. He certainly looks like he could contribute early physically but I've never seen him play.

Or go juco. For example, Brady Ernst doesn't have to sit out.

Redshirting makes it less appealing to transfer prior to graduating though since you would sit out 2 years and only have 3 to play.

If I was a coach I would never red shirt anybody in basketball unless it was my kid. Too big of a chance that they graduate and transfer.

I agree that typically basketball players don't/shouldn't redshirt. But I wouldn't be too worried if it was about them grad transferring away. Usually starters on a good team don't do that.

I particularly like how he's built. We need some physical play inside, and I think he will provide that.

I like all of our recruits in this class, but I think I'll wait and see how they pan out. I know the recruiting services are not the end all be all, but the simple truth is these high schoolers are not as highly rated as the high schoolers Hoiberg brought in. We all like to believe our coaches have superior evaluation skills and I really hope they do. But chances are they'll turn out to be high performers as upper-classmen.

See a little M. Fizer going on. I know....pump the brakes, but someone with his size, with those skills at that age is going to make an impact.

High schoolers like Okoro, Dorsey-Walker, Sledge, Tsalmpouris, Gibson? Hoiberg brought in 4 good high schoolers in 5 years. Niang, Thomas, Morris and Long. Let's not overhype his high school recruiting. He had a lot more busts than home runs.

Mods please change OP's username to SolomonsMom :jimlad:

Or a very strange bot that posts every 30 months or so and goes away. Where are you Mom? You make some good points. Let's talk. How do you know so much about him. We want to believe.

Young listed at 6'8" is a pleasant surprise. Saw a Schultz tweet that they had him at 6'6" during recruiting, but he measured at 6'7.5" this summer. Hope he hits another growth spurt.

Also, Thomas was listed at 6'5" instead of 6'4"

Where they are listed may not mean much.

Did you read what he wrote? He measured at 6'7.5

With shoes? Maybe we're measuring different than in the past.

I'm not buying that all of a sudden, Matt Thomas and Deonte Burton grew an inch before their 4th year of college.

I'm sure it was with shoes. Monte was listed an inch taller last year IIRC. They round up so they could have grown half an inch and still been listed an inch taller

Its possible to grow in your twenties especially for Young. If these guys are exercising and eating right no reason to think they still can't be growing. Admittedly I am no expert but I know I was still growing in my last year of college.

I noticed that on the roster release as well. I'll take it with a grain of salt as teams often round up or give the benefit of the doubt to prospects on their roster listings.

That said if he really is up to 6'8" and potentially still growing the OP about Solomon being a hidden gem will be right on point. He was a very highly rated prospect early in HS career when it was expected he'd grow to be that size and only after he plateaued at 6'6" the past couple of years lowered his ranking..
