Skills Camp?

I think HB was at the NBA camp, or at least it somewhat conflicted. If the timing was better, HB and Randle would have been able to come. My question is why the staff preferred to have Gessell, Carter, Paige, etc attend the earlier camp. If you add all these players, the camp would have been loaded.

Elite camp seemed to me more of an Iowa(few midwest kids)camp...

I would love this to be our lineup but it wont happen.

PG-Gilstrap(I know, i know....)
SG-Staiger(shooter)
SF-Vanderbeken(Can't defend the 3 but can shoot the 3).
PF-Brackins(duh)
C-Hamilton(big)

We would run like a wildcat formation. Who would be ready to play against a lineup with GIlstrap who would be physical enough to drive.

Then have Lucca and JVB shoot threes and spread out defense.
Brackins would have lots of room to do his thing inside and if they double Craig you pass out to the 3 or do high-low with CB and JH.

OR

PG-DG
SG-Gilstrap
SF-Lucca
PF-JVB
C-Brackins

Same concept here, though Brackins would get double teamed every time.
Gilstrap could be a good matchup at the 2 with his driving.

ummm i say we go with our super athletic lineup

PG - Colvin
SG - DG
SF - Gilstrap
PF - Dendy
PF/C - Brackins

that lineup would be getting up and down the floor as fast as anyone and would be jumping out of the gym! that would be fun to watch.

or a physical bunch...

PG - Buck
SG - Lucca
SF - Gilstrap
PF - Brackins
C - Ham

would be slower, much more half-court oriented but would be physically strong on the boards and defensively i think

our set of players is really good for us though. we have an athletic lineup to throw out here against small athletic teams like Okie St, Nebraska, Baylor, Missouri... but at the same time we can put a more physical bigger lineup out there for teams like Colorado, Kansas, K-State, Texas A&M, etc.

Lucca was not a physical player. I don't know if it was because he was on one knee or not, but he did not play physical (or good defense) last year.

i dont know anything specific or from the team, but as an outsider he looked a little overweight and out of shape. i think that can probably be attributed to missing time because of that knee and it bothered him most of the year it seemed like. he is a big, strong guard though and i expect him to be a lot tougher this year. if he drops about 10 pounds, he would be a little faster, and still would be stronger than most 2 guards.

+1 At least one opposing teams' reporter referred to him as a chubby German last year. I think your right, if he could drop a little weight and get a little quicker and better with the ball he would be even better.

As long as you are not as thin as Oliver, being tough and physical is as much mental as physical. It is not Lucca's game.

Those would be interesting line-ups, and I can see how they would be intriguing. Do you think what they gain by playing players in those positions is greater than what they lose? IMO, I see it as magnifying more weaknesses than strengths. Perhaps that why you said you know it won't happen.

I think what makes me the most excited about the basketball season when looking through these possible line-ups is that we will have the ability to be a very multi-dimensional team. Quick and athletic, one line-up. More physical, one line-up. And IMO Mac is a good enough coach to know what line-up to put on the floor to give our opponents the biggest head ache. Being able to do that will give us a chance to stay in almost any game this year.

Adding muscle and bulk will increase your confidence to bang your body around, drive through contact to draw fouls and go to the line, and rebound - all things that Lucca definitely didn't do last year.
I hope he's lifting hard while he's in Europe. His teammates in Ames are lifting four times a week...
