Shoulder Issue

Banged my shoulder up last November doing something stupid. It's gotten better, but still bugs me when I twist it a certain way. Have not had it looked at, but did talk to a friend who is a Physical Therapist and he suspected it is an impinged Shoulder and not a torn Rotator Cup. Anybody else gone through this and how long did it take to be pain free?

I pretty much have been taking a low dose of Alleve when it bugs me and avoiding doing things that make it hurt. Would like to do some upper body weight lifting as part of my work out regime(have lost about 40 pounds over the last 5 months which is another story), but don't know if that would be good or bad for the shoulder?

I have heard that free hanging from a pull up bar is a good way to fix shoulder impingements. Hang for 20-30 seconds at a time if possible. Do that 3-4 times a day. I think its supposed to help stretch certain ligaments and muscles to get the full, natural range of motion back.

I had a shoulder impingement that was actually "sawing" on one of the tendons in my left shoulder and finally broke down and got it fixed last November. It ended up being done via arthroscope and it was a couple of weeks before i had full range of motion back. I didn't get full strength back for 3-4 months and still do therapy stuff on it at home to keep the muscles around the joint strong.

It wasn't a terrible surgery and narrowly missed having an open rotator cuff surgery which would have set me back over a year. I'm glad I went in when I did. Had surgery on a Friday and went back to work Monday so you wouldn't miss much work, but it's all based on pain tolerance.

I solved my shoulder impingement with chiropractic. It took almost a year but I’m 95% better.

Not making light of your issue as I'm sure it's annoying to deal with, but did remind me of a good bit from Louis C.K. Warning, some bad language.

This was hilarious when I saw it on Wednesday. And then I went to the doctor today about a recent back issue, the first back issue I've ever had. He said to keep doing the stretching exercises they taught me in physical therapy. I asked for how long, and he said, forever. Seriously!
