Everyone saying the NBA is in trouble are wrong. They just signed an 11-year, $76 billion TV deal. They’re fine.

That said, I do think they need to make tweaks to bring the 3 point percentage down. Not sure the best way to do that, but if you can bring the league average 3-point percentage down to 32% or lower, teams will stop chucking as many 3s.

Right now the league average 3-point% is 36%. Around the rim it’s 48.9%. At those percentages it is statistically way better to take more 3s as opposed to attacking the rim. If they can make rule tweaks to lower the league average 3-point % to 32% then it is better to attack the rim versus chucking a 3.

In some ways. It’s not in trouble because players are getting worse, these shooters are just drastically better than prior eras, especially the bigs. Haliburton is flat out a better shooter than Reggie Miller, let alone a guy like Steph or Lillard.

I think a lot of it is branding. Imho Joker is the 3rd or 4th best basketball player of all time and the #1 passer of all time. If he was a guy that connected to casual fans with a Gatorade commercial it’s an instant boost. He doesn’t even connect with college fans who claim to love basketball which makes me think they are “meh” about basketball but nuts about college brands.
Strong, the star freshman center for the UCONN women's team, has studied Jokic and patterns her game after his. I thought that was kind of cool.
