Should Paul Rhoads be fired?

I mean, if the last three years doesn't get you fired, what does? As long as he just keeps beating UNI he gets to keep his job? He's been historically bad the last few years. Last week, we mustered like, what, 60 yards in the second half? Tonight we lose to a MAC team on ESPNews due to a comedy of coaching related errors. Honestly, what else does he have to do to justify him being fired?

1. After years 2 and 3, it looked like he could have been good. Its year 7, he isnt getting any better.
2.My expectations are for every 10 years we have 6 years of 6 wins, then 2 with more, and 2 with less. That isnt too difficult to do.
3. It isnt just my opinion.
Rhoads won the early years with chiziks recruits. Hasn't done anything since.

I don't think you fire him before end of the season. I'd still give him the chance to get to 5 wins minimum to consider retaining him. Don't see it happening, but what good is completely dumping the season at this point? If you dump him now it also gives players more time to think about transferring. There's still enough talent on this team that you don't want a mass exodus.

Its time to be realistic. There is no way ISU gets 3 more wins, let alone 4. Your a fool if you think otherwise. These guys are losers and the coaches have no idea how to kick that mentality.

Yeah Paul is a good person. Nobody can deny that.

But the TEAM that he is responsible for has been absolute garbage for 3 years now. 3 years.

If you were a manager of any kind with hiring responsibility would you tolerate severe under performance for 3 (arguably plus) years?

Oh, but he's a good guy and doing his best. Give the man a damn cookie, not a million dollar paycheck.

One thing is clear, he is not a good HC for ISU. His worst attributes are development and high-level decision making, which makes him a horrible fit for ISU.

I agree that 5 wins isn't going to happen. I just don't ever see the point of firing a coach midseason. What does it gain? Jamie has to do whatever keeps the good young players from transferring. IMO, firing Rhoads before the end of the season will convince guys to look elsewhere. The less time without a coach the better for retaining players.

Now, just because you don't fire him doesn't mean you don't start to put feelers out there for who you can get. Again, the last thing you need is a long drawn out coaching search. And let's be honest, an interim coach is just keeping the seat warm for the next guy.

Give Mangino an audition. That's why

I'd roll the dice with one of the young guys on the staff, like Linquist or Ayeni. Keep Wally and Mangino, just install a new voice at the top. Really, something has to change. These soul crushing losses are ruining morale for the team and fanbase. With one of the young guns in charge, there's a chance to retain guys, and who knows maybe get a spark and win a couple of improbable games.

6-21 over the last 3 seasons, including 2 losses to FCS teams. And all indications are the team has been getting progressively worse over those 3 seasons. I really don't understand how anyone could possibly think this thing is going to get turned around under Rhoads.
THIS! Supposedly, this year, we were much better off health-wise on the OLine, and our mental state as a team was MUCH improved, and our 5yr QB looked great in camp and is a great Big XII QB (CPR's assessment) - but what has that gotten us so far this year? More of the same CRAP! I took the position of FIRE HIM NOW & give the new interim coach 2 weeks of time with the team before the next game - better timing for the new guy than if we lose to KU. BTW, I don't think Mangino has done much to really earn the job, but a change at the top is a start. If for some reason the new guy is able to breathe new life into the team, show improvement week to week then it will be a more enjoyable season (if you would even call that enjoyable).

Mangino doesn't deserve an audition, the offense is the worst part of this team. If we are firing Rhoads then Mangino should not be the full-time replacement; the staff needs a complete and wholesale cleaning out. Start fresh

If you're worried about players leaving if CPR gets canned now hate to break it to you but they'll just leave after the season. They know what's up.

I would've picked the "he should've been fired after losing to Tulsa in the bowl game" option if you has it. Him and Mangino are pathetic! Wally doesn't belong here either.

I never post, but seriously can't see how anyone can argue to keep him...

1. 6-21 (Tulsa, Kansas, WVU, Iowa, toledo, UNI, not exactly murderers row).
2. Offensive line progressively worse since Osemele left.
3. Kickers cannot make kicks OR kick the ball into the end zone on kick offs (seriously? Should be able to at least do one or the other).
4. 113 yards in penalties tonight (just tonight's snafu, last week it was second half adjustments, last year it was locker room cancers and injuries)
5. When was the last time you saw a good block on a WR screen despite running at least 10 of them per game?
6. Yet to develop a QB.
7. Teams get worse as year progresses.
8. Never tackle well.

These are just what I came up with off the top of my mind. Not sure next guy can do better, but sure think we should try.

Also, don't blame players. Just kids doing the best they can, but fighting an uphill battle due to being saddled with the current coaching staff.

The only ones I'd really fear losing are the Defensive players. However, we have so many Jucos that are playing a big part of our D, I cannot see them transferring. If the OLine wants to transfer, they may be able to find a home at Western Illinois or Old Dominion or Akron. I can't tell why Lazard and our over-hyped WRs aren't getting more yards against a MAC school that gave up 400 to a rush-first SEC team in Arkansas. Perhaps our coaches don't know how to utilize such amazing talents, OR maybe the WRs will also end up transferring to such powerhouses as W Illinois, Old Dominion or Akron.

For those complaining about Rhoads' pay, that's the market for a D1 football coach. In 2014, the lowest paid football coach was Kyle Flood (Rutgers) making $975,000. Rhoads' salary was $1.8MM, but that still put him in the bottom 10 salaries for all P5 head coaches (including Notre Dame and Navy). No matter who we could hire, they'll be making at least $1MM+ per year or be the lowest paid P5 coach in the country. And when you are a historically poor team at the bottom of the wage scale, the only other incentive you can offer is above average job security. We can't ever expect to be a decent program if we move to a cycle of hiring new coaches every 3 years.

FWIW I voted to see how things play out this season. I thought we looked better against Toledo - rushed the ball well, actually mounted a comeback and were in position to win the game at the end. Our defense held their talented running back in check (except for the two big runs). I still think we should win against KU in two weeks, though I'm not sure there are any other games we have more than a 25% chance of winning. But let's let a few more games play out because I do think this team is better than last year's team. I suspect Pollard is getting some phone numbers together though, in case he needs them in a few weeks.
