Around 1988 or so. I knew Sam and was shocked by thatSam Mack holding up the Burger King on Lincoln way with a knife in the drive thru. Early 90s I think. Orr was still the coach.
I remember walking to the bars and the cops were in riot gear.Every step the cops took escalated the situation, they were itching for a fight.
Somehow, their internal review found they did everything exactly how they were supposed to.
- Roughly break up large house party in riot gear.
- Funnel people from said house party to Welch.
- Mass in middle of the crowd in full riot gear at Welch & Chamberlain, randomly pepper spraying/tear gassing people.
- Close down the bars in Campustown and force everyone out onto the street while also…
- Deploying tear gas and pepper spray from both Welch & Chamberlain and Welch & Lincoln Way
- Push the crowd across Lincoln Way and continue to tear gas them outside the largest dorm in the country. It was a warm night and Friley didn’t have AC so everyone’s windows were open.
- Cut the power to the surrounding neighborhoods, bringing anyone who was inside out.
Probably a good thing. I had a buddy up that weekend that got his ass beat by the police in my front yard. He had some pretty good welts on his back. Welcome to Ames!lol
He is still around Ames. When I was in school we had "God-Socks" on campus.

Yeah that was awful especially considering that the previous year show with Jim Breuer and Bobby Lee was actually pretty damn good.Speaking of Veishea 2004, anyone else remember that disastrous comedy show friday night?
Laughs missing through most of ‘Dew the Rec’
After many students waited in line for more than an hour just to get into “Dew the Rec,” it probably would have been more fun sitting in the dorms watching Comedy Central. The “Dew the Rec” show started terribly and although it recovered somewhat, it went on for far, far too long. Opening the...iowastatedaily.com
Hiawatha Rutland came out and basically attacked the crowd. Incredibly unfunny.
Then later there was some improv thing with Horatio Sanz and others, it went terribly. People just started leaving during their set. Jack McBrayer went on to talk about it a few years later:

I kind of give partial credit to the riot to that show for starting the weekend off on such a **** note.
Taylor story is definitely true. I was present on a number of occasions.stories about Chris Taylor - my uncle used to tell me that Chris would use a pitcher to drink like a beer mug

Maybe someone responded to this already, some reports said he went to gathering with a Missouri player following the game. How he happened to connect w/ the player and do so, not sure if that was ever clarified.
- I knew a Missouri alum who was at the party Eustachy showed up to .... It was unclear why he was there, or who he came with.
