Every step the cops took escalated the situation, they were itching for a fight.
  • Roughly break up large house party in riot gear.
  • Funnel people from said house party to Welch.
  • Mass in middle of the crowd in full riot gear at Welch & Chamberlain, randomly pepper spraying/tear gassing people.
  • Close down the bars in Campustown and force everyone out onto the street while also…
  • Deploying tear gas and pepper spray from both Welch & Chamberlain and Welch & Lincoln Way
  • Push the crowd across Lincoln Way and continue to tear gas them outside the largest dorm in the country. It was a warm night and Friley didn’t have AC so everyone’s windows were open.
  • Cut the power to the surrounding neighborhoods, bringing anyone who was inside out.
Somehow, their internal review found they did everything exactly how they were supposed to.
I remember walking to the bars and the cops were in riot gear.

I was sober that night trying to get my friends home and they basically were forcing people on Welch. It was such a mess.

When I was a freshman at ISU (2002-03) I stayed on the 5th floor of Larch Hall. A few basketball players were on the same floor, and I got to know them that year. Mainly Tim Barnes, Chris Alexander, and Adam Haluska.

At the end of the basketball season I remember some of them talking about how coach Eustachy threw a big party and the team just got drunk with him. I thought that was crazy at the time, the head coach getting wasted with the players… but I think it was later that spring he resigned.

Another thing I remember that year about Haluska was that he really wasn’t a party animal like a lot of the other guys. While a lot of the team would drink a lot (and/or get high), I never really saw him getting drunk. In my mind it could have been part of why he transferred… to get away from the drunken mess that team and coaching staff was at the time.

Where they love the governor
Probably a good thing. I had a buddy up that weekend that got his ass beat by the police in my front yard. He had some pretty good welts on his back. Welcome to Ames!lol

I double lucked out, as the previous year I had lived in the 5th floor of Friley. My roommate from that year still lived in the room and got second-hand gassed.

This is almost word for word what happened in 2014 or whatever the last one was. Minus the tear gas and cutting the power.

Why do they insist on funneling them anywhere but away?

Speaking of Hoiberg and some wild stories

There was an infamous party (at least in my circle) I was at my freshman year during basketball season after a loss to Kansas. I can't remember if it was the day of the loss or the day after as we had Monday classes off. Most of the team walked into this seemingly random Legacy apartment party.

They each got a girl on both arms and walked out within 15min. All of us were dumbfounded.

The next game was the famous Scottie buzzer beater bank shot against Oklahoma State.

I remember it very vividly as my freshman gf and I got in a big fight and broke up temporarily. And I was pissed because a girl I was talking to at the party ended up with one of the players lol

Speaking of Veishea 2004, anyone else remember that disastrous comedy show friday night?

Hiawatha Rutland came out and basically attacked the crowd. Incredibly unfunny.

Then later there was some improv thing with Horatio Sanz and others, it went terribly. People just started leaving during their set. Jack McBrayer went on to talk about it a few years later:

I kind of give partial credit to the riot to that show for starting the weekend off on such a **** note.
Yeah that was awful especially considering that the previous year show with Jim Breuer and Bobby Lee was actually pretty damn good.

stories about Chris Taylor - my uncle used to tell me that Chris would use a pitcher to drink like a beer mug

Loren Meyer getting hit by a train
Taylor story is definitely true. I was present on a number of occasions.

The review almost makes me wish I had seen the show (well, some of it, anyway) just to witness. I don't think I've ever heard about it.

  • I knew a Missouri alum who was at the party Eustachy showed up to .... It was unclear why he was there, or who he came with.
Maybe someone responded to this already, some reports said he went to gathering with a Missouri player following the game. How he happened to connect w/ the player and do so, not sure if that was ever clarified.
