Sean Foster underage drinking?

Not saying this is what happened at all, but I know that something as simple as giving a police officer a false name is considered interference with official police acts and is an arrestable offense by Ames PD.

Or at least is was once upon a time.

Cop here. Providing False Identification Information is pretty much an assured trip to jail. I can work with someone who makes a mistake or gets caught in a bad spot and owns it. Lying to try to avoid trouble or to have someone else's name get put on the charge is a problem.

Regarding "arrestable offense," every crime in Iowa is "arrestable." You can be put in handcuffs and taken to jail for something as simple as speeding. It's a misdemeanor. When a kid gets a ticket for an underage alcohol possession, that is still considered an "arrest," even though they're (typically) charged and released.

As far as crimes go it seems to be a pretty mild one.

Good information. Thank you.

Also, to paraphrase Mr Hedberg, I used to be pretty stupid when a lot of alcohol was involved. I still am, but I used to be too.

Standard procedure when using a fake ID to get into a bar. Never show the cops your fake. But also, if they corner you and ask for an ID, it's probably best not to lie to them and say you're 21. Just say you walked in while the bouncer wasn't looking. Take your minor on the premises ticket and avoid the interference charge.

If you're TRULY cop, then you'd tell us the secret get out of a speeding ticket handshake.

Or who really DOES have the best donuts.

Don't taze me bro!

All that said - I am a staunch supporter of all LEOs... One of the toughest jobs. Lots of stress and everyone has a friggin' camera to make sure everything you do is taken out of context.

Thanks for your service!

Back in the lat 90's I saw a girl get 3 MIP's at a tailgate. She got the first one and just kept partying.

This works out well, except we all know how they got in and how they got that wristband, and typically surrendering the fake ID and owning up to it is enough to get a pass on that charge. Possession of a fictitious ID is an indictable offense (Serious Misdemeanor) as opposed to providing a fake name verbally (Simple Misdemeanor).

It's kinda like weed. I don't care that much if someone has it (within reason), but if we can't all be adults and acknowledge the elephant in the room, the odds of catching a free pass on it dwindle. Think of it like parenting: If your kid screwed up and lied about it, did the odds of taking it easy on them increase or decrease?

I write a lot of tickets (500-700 a year, and I'm not a trooper). I don't write for less than 15 over unless there is some extenuating circumstance. There's no secret to getting out of it. If you hand be a PBA card, like the guy above shared, you're probably going to get a ticket and an ass chewing.

I like Krispy Kreme, but mostly because there's not any near me and it's a rare treat. If you want a specific type: raspberry filled with granular sugar coating. Yum.

Thanks for your appreciation. We get more "thank yous" than you'd think. I really do enjoy my job.
