Instead of trashing Scales...don't you think its possible he's put together a good spring, summer, and fall? He looks like he's gained some weight, why is it so far-fetched that he went out and earned the #1 spot?

I know it seems everyone has a man-crush on the new strength and conditioning program coach, but didn't the former guy win S&C coach of the year award once? I like what I hear about the direction of the program and the philisophical change, but we used to rave about that program in the past (albeit not the recent past.)
I have no fear that GC will play the guy that gives him the best chance to win games. That might be Scales, it might be Robinson, it might be Bass, it might be ............
The one nice thing I see in the whole situation is that no one knows who it will be, and GC has already said that if the starter is not getting things done in a game, he will give someone else a try. Sounds better to me than what we have seen in the past.
Good luck to Scales and I hope he is a great runner for ISU this year. I really like to see these guys that come back from injuries do well. At this point it is hard to convince me he is the best back ISU has because of what he has done so far for the Clones. I know he has been injured a lot, but I don't recall a single "wow" moment in his career to date, and he has been at ISU 3 years.

I was no Stevie fan, but he had a 1000 yard rushing season and he averaged 4.9 ypc last year. I'd be thrilled if he had a guy average 4.9 a carry this year.
“If I had to make a decision today, Jason would be our starter in part because of his experience,” Chizik said. “But I don’t have to make that decision today.”
You tell me when the last time we had a "wow" moment from any running back....
I said he had a 1000 yard rushing season, I didn't say last year. It was 2004.
I'd say last year when we had Koch in the backfield and we found out that he had an innate ability to run with the O-line that was given to him and had the ability to run over defenders. I wish we had him this season - we could really use a power back like that
Sure....one was a redshirt year and he had 2 knee ops...
You tell me when the last time we had a "wow" moment from any running back....Ennis Haywood? How can you be a Stevie Hicks fan and come out and bash Scales. Its hard to convince you he is the best at this point? How many practices have you been to? How much film of practices have you watched?
I have watched no film or done any indepth research on the matter. All I am saying is that so far, on the field, what Jason has done is not real impressive. I realize he has been hurt, but he has had some playing time too. For the record, I was not a great fan of Stevie. I did appreciate that he was always working his hardest, always trying, but the guy was just plain too slow. I was really hope that Scales would be the guy to replace him last year.
Obviously you have watched lots of pracitces and film of Scales, so tell me why he is the number one guy. All I have seen is the highlights posted on the Iowa State site, and his name never seems to be on there. Maybe the guy that writes those highlights has something against Scales.
