If you and your son like history, a trip to Fredericksburg and Johnson City is a good day long trip. In Fredericksburg see the National Museum of the Pacific. Admiral Nimitz was from Fredericksburg and there is nice museum there. Then head 30 miles east to to LBJ ranch in Johnson City. For a break from the CC in downtown San Antonio a unique place is the Buckhorn Saloon and Museum.
