Rotator Cuff Surgery

I see Dr. Warme for an impingement. He gives me cortisone in the top of the bicep where it attaches to the shoulder. When it gets bad I can't sleep through the night, pick up a 32 oz drink, nothing. After the shot I can play golf, do push-ups, etc. This time only worked for 3 months, so I go in sometime in September to get evaluated and an MRI probably. Hopefully it's just the bone spur and impingement and it will be fixed with arthroscopic surgery.

Both shoulders have been bad for years. I totally separated my shoulder when I was around 20 playing softball. It was the championship so I put it back in myself by forcing my arm over my head using my other hand. Popped right back... :) Luckily it was my glove hand and I was the pitcher. I've had PT over the years that really helped with the tear scarring.

If you have no strength you may have ruptured your bicep tendon. Doc told me if the pain goes away I probably ruptured it. He said Elway and Favre won superbowls with a ruptured bicep tendon.

Good luck. I plan to have surgery after the golf season if I can wait that long.

if i hang from a bar ill get some pain in my shoulder. Ive always wondered if it was rotator cuff or not, just havent bothered to have it checked out.

Get it checked so maybe you can head off surgery with PT. I'm literally laying in bed after surgery on Wednesday. This recovery sucks. But I know I'll be so glad I did this. Type 5 slap tear of the rotator, spur, and bicep impingement. Oxycodone every 4 hours and lots of still softener. I bought a Breg ice therapy system, great invention.

Well just hit 16 weeks post surgery on Tuesday. Recovery has gone great. Have pretty much 100% mobility and almost completely pain free. Still hurts a bit when I reach behind the back and move hand up. I actually hit about 60 golf balls on Wednesday with various irons. Didn't hit any woods. My biggest advice is follow your pt schedule and put in the work at home, also make a pulley system for stretching and warming up.

I had surgery for a torn shoulder capsule when I was 20. I messed it up pitching in high school. Now I’m 40 and get cortisone shot in it about every 4-6 months and it probably needs to be scoped soon. The recovery for the first surgery was 12 weeks. It was pretty miserable and it isn’t much fun these days either.

Good luck on your recovery road, it will get much better once you get out of the sling and can do more aggressive pt.

Get it done, well worth the long recovery.

Luckily this is my non-dominant shoulder. Golf was really painful toward the end. Looking forward to Spring and hopefully the best season of my life at age 50, 51 after February.

I had rotator cuff surgery last Tuesday. Also discovered torn labrum, biceps tenodesis and subscapularis tear. Would love to hear advice, stories from those who have had the procedure. What was recovery like, pros/cons on physical therapy on site or at home, length of recovery to 100% or at least until you could do most daily activities without issue.

TIA

What kind of shoulder pain did you have, and when would you feel it?

I tore the bottom of my RC. Dr said I was better off not having surgery and letting it heal on its own other wise he would have to cut through the top portion to get down to where the injury was. Fix the injury, then fix where he had to cut into. Recovery was longer than I could have off from work so I just toughed it out. Honestly I think it was a bad decision on my part.
