Rocco joining the Transfer Portal

Maybe I’m off base, but I’m a bit surprised we haven’t heard more from CJR. In times of change, more information is helpful. I know he’s super busy, but even a coach announcement or a short podcast that says “hey, I’m out here. We’re gonna be fine.” Would endear him to the masses a bit. Feels like he’s gone underground.

He took the Michigan job, where have you been? We shut down the football program

I generally like the Two Guys shows. Personally, I think Hassel is much better at the role than Williams. I get sick of Williams’ talking like he’s some kind of expert on betting, crypto, books, etc. Hassel treats the show like he should with about 80% satire.

I find it generally entertaining and Hassel is really funny at times. But if it becomes the Iowa/Iowa State/Penn St show, I will absolutely stop listening. I don’t think Williams’ realizes that only a very small fraction of ISU fans care about Campbell anymore.

Don’t forget whiskey connoisseur

CW just found out one of his good friends is leaving and dealt with an entire day of players, their families, coaches and their families blowing up his phone trying to figure out if they were going to stay in a place that they didn’t want to leave, and didn’t wake up that Friday morning thinking they were going to be out of jobs and moving. We can all blame Pedo State for how that was managed, but, I think we can cut CW some slack for his reaction that night. He’s always been transparent about his friendship with TJ and still manages to cover MBB in a transparent manner, either on his own or through Brend. CF and CW’s coverage of the Cyclones is still light years better than anything else out there.
Transparent, yes. But it is clear how emotionally tied he is to the coaches which cannot help but cloud his coverage. No way you can be that emotionally charged without it clouding things.

It isn’t like Campbell hasn’t flirted with other jobs that past few years. He nearly left for USC before Riley swooped in to take it. So you’d think CW would have the possibility in the back of his mind. CW once used the analogy of this being equivalent to a girlfriend or wife leaving. Well, if she flirted with leaving you for others on and off for the past few years, you’d think you’d create some level of emotional separation there but I guess not.

If he wants to continue to run CYCLONE fanatic, he needs to have more allegiance to the Cyclones and our fans than to a coach who has occasionally flirted with other jobs. And I say all of this with no ill-will to Campbell. And I won’t have any with Rogers when he eventually leaves. Or whenever Otz leaves, which I assume will happen someday. I enjoy it while we have it but my love for ISU is bigger than any coach or AD - Orr, Walden, Floyd, McCarney, Eustacy, Chiz-****, Morgan, McDermott, Rhoads, Hoiberg, Campbell, Rogers, Otz. I’ve loved ISU long before these guys came and will love it long after they’re gone. I’ll continue to donate, buy tickets, tailgate, travel to away games. Not for the coaches but for ISU.

In hindsight it’s kinda weird that Bill let him speak to the WBB team before the Iowa game, but it lends some credence that he hadn’t made the decision at that time.
Or maybe Bill felt that to prepare for the postseason what the team needed more than anything was to hear from someone who had personally gone through the adversity of a coach abruptly leaving for a bigger job despite spending most of their career at ISU?

Has he ever really acted like he's an expert in those domains? To me he has always talked about them as someone who is really into a hobby but I don't think he's ever claimed to be an expert in any area. I guess it's like two buddies on a podcast shooting the **** so of course they will talk about things they're interested in.

A lot of this can be true while still understanding in the moment people aren't always going to be able to react perfectly professionally.

I'm not sure at this point what beating CDub with socks filled with quarters is supposed to achieve. By that Sunday morning, outside of Jeremy, they knew they were out of line and have been trying to fix it since.

Life in being a CFB fan is way easier when you understand what the coaches tend to think of fans. They all say the right things and probably mean it in the few moments of 100% positivity and support.

But then the mask slips a bit at a tough press conference. Better yet at things like coaching clinics in informal times it’s pretty clear what the industry thinks of fans. Keep writing bigger checks and STFU. There absolutely is contempt and zero respect for fanbases as a whole. While they are smart enough to know who ultimately foots all these bills, coaches’ views generally are that fans are useful idiots and they should feel lucky to have the coaching staff they have.

I fell in love with the process, and I thought it loved me back. Now the process is leaving me for another school!

IMO some are withholding their unconditional love for our new Coach. Maybe it is a subconscious thing that showing support for Coach Jimmy Rogers is somehow disloyal to Campbell. CW has definitely let his emotions get the better of him. IMO that has been detrimental to Cyclone Fanatic. It’s almost become Campbell Fanatic. Tyler Mouser is not ready to be a HC. Not even sure he is a good OC.

Everyone needs to support Coach Jimmy Rogers. We need to be Cyclone FANATICS.
Not me.
Jimmy's my guy:
"Win or Tie!"

Some of you guys are being way too harsh on CW.

Here’s some perspective:

- Hindsight is 20/20 and now we all have our own version of events that went down the weekend CMC left. It sucked. We all remember that right?
- It was jarring when Rogers got announced so suddenly. Many connected people (media, players, coaches, etc) had gone days without any info from Campbell about what was next. And here we get a HC named immediately.
- I would’ve put betting odds that Mouser was a favorite as HC. Why wouldn’t we expect some kind of continuity from the greatest decade in ISU football?
- CW just released his life’s work in book form. The first thing he said on his emotional pod was how chapter 1 is all about why Matt never left ISU. Very unfortunate timing, yes?
- CW is on book events around the state. He and a few others are hand packing these books to get out to customers. He did not write that book to get rich. He’s had a lot happening these past several weeks.
- I’m excited for Jimmy. People want him on the podcast immediately, but 1) the full staff isn’t officially named and 2) I’d rather Jimmy be working tirelessly to secure our roster than spend time talking to us right now.

Everyone step back and take a deep breath. You get to choose what media you consume. You are welcome to go enjoy the 247 coverage or whatever the Rag puts out if that’s your cup of tea.

I disagree on Mouser. He was not a logical one. As an AD, Jamie would look at it and say what has worked and what hasn’t. The most successful FB coach we have had is one who was a HC and brought staff with him.

It was pretty obvious that Campbell would pull several staff and players with him. So now Mouser gives you a guy who needs to fill a staff from a group that is basically similar connections as Campbell. He also needs to replace players from a pool he doesn’t have “readily available “ to him due to not having coached at other schools.

When you analyze the options, Miuser was FAR from an obvious or quick turnaround choice.

I think you're being a little hard on CW here. Point of fact: he did indeed say that Campbell was out the door if SC had offered. He's said that more than once.

And getting close to coaches gets you access to information. Obviously there are things coaches don't want shared with the masses at certain times. But as a journalist, if you don't build solid relationships with the coaching staffs where they trust you, you're not getting scoops period. And in a 10 year span (like Campbell's here) those contacts can invariably become good friendships.

Put yourself in his shoes. If a bunch of your close friends suddenly had to uproot their lives out of nowhere, might you feel a little emotional? Cut the guy some slack.
