Rocco joining the Transfer Portal

I appreciate everything Chris has done and continues to do for this website, but this has been a big blind spot of his for several years now.

There's a difference between being friendly with the people you cover, and being besties. The latter ultimately leads to less objective coverage, intended or not. Especially on a fan site where the average fan won't ever have those relationships, and cares about/is loyal only to ISU.

Him being so hurt by Campbell/Mouser/Rocco leaving has also lead to a 'meh' tone when talking about Rogers and the new staff, compared to the previous. I don't think he's doing it on purpose, but it's been noticeable on recent podcasts. And that's not fair to Rogers when CF is the leading Cyclone fan site.
Has been blatantly disrespectful or damned near writing off Rogers already.

Really off putting for the leader of an ISU fan site.

Not surprised by this, he’s likely going to Penn St with the staff he knows and trusts. Good luck Rocco!

That schedule of theirs next year is embarrassing. Looks like a traditional Hok schedule.
That’s the absolute sickening part of this deal.
I hung up my cleats as a Jr High FB Ledgend.

But with $30m in NIL and a coaching staff budget Campbell will have…I could win 10 games against the Hostess Cupcakes pedo state plays next year.

Eh, I wouldn't say it's been blatantly disrespectful. But when he was pining for Mouser to take over, then openly disappointed when it didn't happen, wasn't a good look. It was a tough situation for all involved, but that didn't do Rogers and co. any favors.

I agree it wasn't disrespectful, but it was mostly just a bad look for CW and doesn't really impact Rogers at all. What happens on the field will determine that.

I mean this as respectfully as possible, but the immediate reaction podcast where he was crying about the news did not hit me the same way as most people.

My immediate reaction was “should a journalist have this kind of reaction? Aren’t they supposed to objectively cover the team?” But I get it, he’s a podcaster more than a journalist. And maybe what it means to be a journalist is different than it used to be.

I thought it was kind of pathetic to be honest.

I've said before they are walking a fine line between fandom and journalism. And then you throw in personal relationships on top of it and it's even more complicated.

To be clear, I don't have a problem with it and I don't mean this to be critical of anyone involved. I don't think anyone is being disingenuous nor are they misrepresenting who and what they are. They're just not "journalists" in the traditional sense so if that is your expectation there are going to be moments it disappoints or confuses you.

The podcast immediately after the CMC news is a perfect example. Emotions were clearly raw. CW being emotional was a reflection of how a lot of us were feeling. You can look at it two ways. On one hand, you can appreciate the authenticity of it all and find it refreshing. On the other, you could say its' unbecoming of a journalist. I was in the former camp, but it's because I don't view these guys as traditional journalists.

The point here is that it depends how you view these guys. I think it's on the audience to know this going into it and set expectations accordingly. I enjoy this site and all the other content they provided because it's "news" (often that I wouldn't get elsewhere), but also from a fan's perspective.

I personally don't expect some kind of hard-hitting journalism and I take some of the information with a grain of salt. We saw this clearly on display with how the criticism of JP got "backtracked" or "clarified" or whatever you want to call it. Since then it's been pretty steady "Campbell was gone and there is nothing that was going to change that". They need to be out of the AD's dog house to do what they do here. JP wrote the forward for his book, FFS.

Again, this is not criticism. It is what it is. It's on the people here to take all this news/reporting through the appropriate lens.

If his first tweet about Rogers is still up, it was pretty disrespectful.

IMO I am glad we passed on Mouser. He was a very average OC at best. But I heard he is a great guy.

Agree overall, and if Rogers wins it's good for everyone and it's all moot. I just want to see CJFnR get objective coverage, which cuts both ways.
For sure. While being close to the former staff absolutely led to access and information CF otherwise would not have, any perception by the new staff that you have allegiance to the old staff can impact access as well. I say that as someone who was cool with CW's reaction to Campbell leaving because I understood the relationship to those that were leaving. But this is a main reason journalistic guidelines of that type are there.

Chris says he’ll cheer for PSU and buy a jersey if Rocco goes there

I love Chris and all he does for ISU & fans, but this coaching carousel has brought out an incredibly unprofessional side of him. I understand you build friendships with guys when you cover them for a decade, but does Chris want to be a professional journalist or a professional PR guy for Campbell and co?

Thank you for your service Rocco..

Saying that, you simply cannot "forever be a cyclone" and leave your final season... I am forever a Cyclone until the day I die, no matter the torture and pain!

Just being fuc*ing honest. If you want to chase a bag, want to follow your coach, or want to play closer to home... Just be honest. I'd respect him more by saying that. Playing us all off as stupid idiots.

Something along the lines of hope he does well but feels like being set up with another person after your wife leaves you.

If I feel ambitious I’ll see if it’s still findable.

Okay, I remember that now. Also said that on the podcasts when talking about the speed of the Rogers hire.
