I'm guessing Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). It was originally an industrial solvent. Very commonly used on race horses and show cattle. Good stuff. But I believe it is no longer labeled for humans.

I may or may not have grown up next door to a vet's office and our dog would suddenly get prescriptions when one of us kids were sick.

Came in liquid or cream. I knew a race horse trainer in Maryland that would buy it by the 55 gallon drum.

If you got it on your hands or anything you had the taste of garlic for quite awhile(not speaking from experience!)
