Rhoads ices NIU kicker

How can you possibly think Rhoads icing a kicker during the game could have any impact on time spent practicing special teams?

I wasn't making a direct connection, more of a snide reference to the overall special teams performance — I probably should've said the icing was the best special-teams move all night.

In fairness, at least Mahoney nailed two FGs. But his first one was arrggggh! (hope that was just first-kick jitters), kickoffs were short and of course, there was The Punt.

All I'm saying is, in games against formidable opponents, the ST has to perform better. Hopefully they'll improve.

Looked like there were timing issues with a new holder. Reguardless, this is the year he needs to step up and make kicks. End of story. Kickoffs...two were in the endzones. One was a touchback. All kickoffs had 4+ hangtime. They werent bad considering the gusty conditions last night.

a new year of PATS and FG's that dont have enough air... did you see some of his PATS?

and what happend to your guarantee that Van Der Kamp would be starter for the first game? :wideeyed:

Did I see the PATs? Yes, they were through the uprights with plenty of air under them. Field Goals were more than long enough and more than high enough. If you watch the 41 yarder on Clone Zone, you cant see the ball as it crosses the plain, because it is so high. Given your criticisms and complaints, I would suggest walking on or even volunteering as a coach as the team does not have a kicking coach. You seem to have some deep insight and criticism that would benefit the team as a whole.

I retracted my statement and probably spoke too soon on Kirby. I do admit fault on that. I think we still might see Kirby by seasons end depending on how Dan does this week. I think his punt last night was a mishap. Dan can punt and I would expect him to continue to be the punter.

I always thought Icing the kicker meant, you call a timeout and then confuse the kicker into going back into the huddle with you, and then quickly sticking his kicking foot into a bucket of ice to numb it, so that when he goes back out to kick, he can't feel his foot... And if it needs to be iced again to make sure it is properly numbed, you call another timeout, confuse the kicker into coming back into the huddle with you again, and icing his foot again. Wow, I was wayyy off...

I agree. I thought Mahoney did fine last night. Yes, the first field goal attempt was absolutely brutal, but it is obvious the long snapper, holder, and kicker worked out the timing issues of the first miss.
