Soldiers in the heat of battle never lost their sense of humor. During the Japanese attack on my cousins ship, which sunk it, I was able to get a copy of the radio logs from their operator,
“We are under attack from 16 Japanese planes.
“The enemy is jamming our signal.
“Mamma always told me I’d have days like this.”

Guess we've strayed a bit from D-Day, sorry. In a way, though, these battles, and the many lesser-known ones, are all scenes of the one story. 16 million Americans in uniform during WWII.
In the Battle of Midway, we sent 27 ships. Two years later in the Battle of Phil Sea, due to the American industrial might we sent 129 ships. And unlike the Japanese, the same month, we sent an Armada to France that had even more craft. It was incredible how the United States was able to manufacture all those ships in a short amount of time. The navy at Midway was not the same navy at Phil Sea. Not even close.

It is widely known that Hitler executed 6 million Jews in the Holocaust.

At that level it’s all about politics. Same reason Chesty Puller was awarded 5 Navy crosses and not at least two medals of honor. Back then the president and or VP didn’t like a general, they would not let them advance
I read somewhere this morning that there about 4000 WW2 vets left with about 100 per day dying.
My dad went in the Navy in the fall of 1943 as an 18 year old. He would have been 101 back in April. He was over in the Philippines, Guam and Okinawa. I still have the diary he kept during the war.
