Good. I prefer that strategy. Also, it gives Jakolby Long the chance to have an impact this year if he's healthy.
Jakolby's the dang forgotten man. Poor kid has to sit behind our 3-headed guard monster last year, and everybody forgets he's a pretty damn good ball player.Good. I prefer that strategy. Also, it gives Jakolby Long the chance to have an impact this year if he's healthy.
do you have some insight into Long? I don't think he played in cap city and only logged a few minutes last yearJakolby's the dang forgotten man. Poor kid has to sit behind our 3-headed guard monster last year, and everybody forgets he's a pretty damn good ball player.
Still a ways to go before saying Jakolby is a dang good basketball player. The surgery probably set him back some as well. I do think he has potential but that is all we know at this point. I hope that he can be a rotation guy this year though. That would be great
I think that J Long will have a role this year and opportunity to earn quality minutes.
Last year it wasn't likely he'd get on the floor due to the experienced guard depth ISU had and later we as we found out his injury.
Prohm would have sat him down after the season and described a role for him this year that he embraced. If not, many players would have looked for a fresh start, and I do believe he would have had options considering his ranking and other quality offers.
It is still up to Jakobly to earn playing time, but the opportunity, role and health is here for him to take it.
Just my opinion, but in today's college basketball transfer carousel we should be more hesitant to give out the last scholarship, and in turn save it for the mid-year transfer market. Significantly less competition at that time. Lots of former Top 50ish players wanting to leave programs like Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Arizona, etc. Our last 2 mid-year transfer were Burton and McKay, and they were both very impactful players.
Cannot agree with this enough.
Hindsight is obviously 20/20 but if ISU hadn't wasted a scholarship on Ray Kasongo, they could've pursued players like
Sam Cunliffe 6-6 guard from Arizona State who averaged 9.5 ppg and 4.8 rpg Ended up at Kansas
Yankuba Sima. 6-11 forward from St. John's who averaged 7.3 ppg and 5.3 rpg. Ended up at Oklahoma State
Jahmal Mcmurray. 6-1 guard from South Florida who averaged 20 ppg. Ended up at SMU.
And a few others I'm probably forgetting.
I could be remembering this wrong, but I believe he transferred around the time Burton left Marquette and there was a little bit of a debate among fans on who we should pursue.I also believe Semi Ojeleye transferred from Duke at semester. Went on to be a 2nd round pick of the Celtics this year.
Since entering the transfer world in 2011 we've been in the tournament 5 of the last 6 years with 2 sweet 16 appearances and 3 big 12 tournament championships, I'd say Iowa State has more wins than losses.
Wonder if that JUCO kid we recruited, Daryl Edwards, regrets his LSU decision now? Seems they've added a lot of guards.

And they're about to get Mitchell Robinson. They've really loaded up on some talent...couple of top 100 guys and now possibly a top 10 guy. What the heck is going on down there?
They're in the $EC. Also, I think Mitchellbis from New Orleans. LSU has always been able to recruit, but their coaching sucks year after year. And they're about to get Mitchell Robinson. Saw how good the were with Ben Simmons two years ago?
