RECRUITING: Cyclones land Washington State transfer

Yeah you’re not refuting my point. I’m sure the posters doing somersaults and cartwheels over this kid would be doing the same if Prohm was still coach. That’s all I’m saying.
I dont know much about this kid but those numbers against Pac-12 competition would probably double in a weaker conference like the Big 10 or Big 12.

Prohms issue was he got mid-major guys like Holden, Beverley, Brase, and thought they were Big 12 starters. TJ is adding a Power 6 player from the best conference as depth.

Who exactly are those posters doing somersaults and cartwheels? I see a thread full of reasonable responses to this pickup.

I like the get, a stretch four and a rebounder checks boxes we need. Plus we have him for two years.

Seems like a good role player who plays hard, something we really need. Best case scenario he really works his butt off and ups his stats and minutes. Worst case he'd been a flexible player to run as a stretch 4 in practice scenarios.

His stats don't jump off the page to you until you see the advanced figures. He was #1 on Washington State for box score at +6.2 and also #1 in offensive rating at 122.9. His rebounds per 100 possessions was 12.5 which is better than any of our starters this year. That tells me he was likely under-utilized.

With the NCAA granting an option of another year of eligibility to all players during this unusual Covid scheduling nightmare, how does that affect the scholarship limits? If a 4th year senior decides to come back, does that reduce the number of scholarships available for incoming freshmen? The general rule is 5 years to play 4.

Players who can space and pace >> Traditional posts in Otz's (Hoiball) offense. ISU was best with guys like Niang and Burton at the 5

I considered Burton more of a small 4 on the 2016/17 team, with Solo, Holden & Bowie playing the 5. We were best as the season progressed with Solo at 5 and he was playing around 30mpg.

The prior year 2015/16 was ISU's best post combination with Niang & McKay. Niang the stretch 4 and McKay the rim runner, rebounder and shot blocker. I loved that line-up because we could actually play big with McKay, Niang and Nadar or Hogue.

Kunc sounds like a great stretch 4 (ala Niang). Now if be could get a Hogue-type player, I would be excieted about our front court. Foster, Kunc, Conditt & Recruit

I’m still reserving judgement until he plays, BUT seeing these types of stats make me excited for the other guys TJ will bring in this year and years to come.

We need bench guys too, but he was starting to see starter minutes toward the end of the year.

Seems like people forget we had to play a walkon last year in end of game situations cause our scholarship players on the bench werent good enough. Anyone thinking we were going to get 5 transfers who all averaged 20 a game are out of their mind.

Well, he was also hurt.
