Recruit Lists v2.0

@GoodmanESPN: Manhattan gets a HUGE lift for this season with news that Cincy transfer Jermaine Lawrence is eligible.

I don't know the whole Lawrence story but someone explain to me how Lawrence can play all year for Cincinnati and then transfer and be eligible right away but McKay doesn't play a second for Marquette and he has to sit out first semester at ISU.

The NCAA is dumb as (any and all expletives).
The story from what I understand is that he found out his dad has cancer. Cincy is 10 hours from home and Manhattan is 1 hour. Why this didn't apply to Okoro when he transferred, I can't explain.

While not allowed by the NCAA, the NCAA does not have the power to get the records (they are not a law enforcement/government agency). Likewise a relative or coach is not required to disclose gifts to a recruits relatives as long as it is below the IRS limit. Aka - not allowed per NCAA but also impossible to prove without the gifter or giftee turning them in.
So to sum it up, the guy that said it was allowable per the ncaa was full of it.

It's not "allowable" but it happens year after year. You have no room to talk BTW. What's Mario Chalmers' dad up to these days? Not an over qualified D1 coach/staffer anymore I assume.

The sorta out-of nowhere breaking news on Dillon Brooks to Oregon buzz is starting to get some clarity...

@TheRecruitScoop: RT @GoodmanESPN: Oregon is likely to hire Canisius assistant Mike Mennenga to the staff. He will help to bring Dillon Brooks aboard, also.

So hiring a coach to get at the #44 player in a class seems a smidge desperate...

HIRING an AAU coach or a parent in some capacity in an effort to land a recruit is clearly defined as allowable per the ncaa rules. Heck, there are teams giving these people actual assistant coaching jobs where they have real input into the team and recruiting, which is nuts. Having that AAU coach (if he is not a family member) give him cash is to my knowledge NOT allowed and that is what we are talking about here.

Chalmers was the Director of Basketball Operations, which means that his job was to make sure the hotels on road trips had the right video equipment, the right food for meals and that Self had a supply of Diet Cokes in his room. Not quite "D1 Coach".

So, the facts of the Manning situation and the hiring of Thomas Robertson's mother don't make you blush or feel the least bit embarrassed as a KU fan?

I'll be honest. If ISU did it I wouldn't be embarrassed. If it isn't breaking the rules, I'm fine with it.

If we hired Diallo's mom and gave her 100k a year to take gum off the seats at Hilton after games, that would be fine with me. If he played a year here. If your not cheating your not trying.

Again, it's not cheating. Cheating is breaking the rules and this is allowed under the rules. But I am pretty sure that an AAU coach giving a former player $13,999.99 as a gift he doesn't have to report to the IRS IS cheating in the eyes of the ncaa.

Are you talking about Thomas Robinson, whose mother DIED of a heart attack at her home in DC while he was at Kansas? And she never at any point in her too-brief life an employee of the University of Kansas. Perhaps you should do at least a little fact checking before you chime in.

My god, are kids really that tight with their high school/aau coaches? It just seems silly to me that you would want to tie yourself to an adult looking for career advancement.
