Inside NU update from Cunningham - 2nd time in the past few days we aren't indicated as an offer... One of which by Cunningham himself.

2014 SF Josh Cunningham likes Northwestern, but is just beginning his college search | Inside Northwestern
That is strange. If we're in constant contact, I wonder what Fred is waiting for. Maybe he plans to have him down for a game and offer him then for a bit more flair. Just strange we offered Macura during camp but not Cunningham. Not taking anything away from Macura but its surprising.

And to be fair, the article listed them, not Cunningham.
"In a month’s time, Cunningham may be forced to rethink the relative standing of every last offer already on deck. A number of high-major programs are showing interest, and with a few strong performances in July, his already long offer sheet – which includes Iowa, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, Virginia Tech, St. John’s and Northwestern – could grow immensely."

Jaylen Johnson showing more game
During the latest update to the Rivals150, 6-foot-9 power forward Jaylen Johnson from Ypsilanti (Mich.) High made a sizeable jump. The lean and athletic insider moved up to No. 64 from No. 97, and he backed up that jump on Saturday.
Johnson is an excellent rebounder, and he moves well and gets off the floor quickly. He weighs only around 210 pounds, but his frame is built to carry more weight and he's more skilled than he's been given credit for. In particular, Johnson was throwing impressive passes for a guy his size.
Recently, Michigan State offered him a scholarship. He said Tom Izzo's approach made an impression on him.
"He told me that he didn't have to have me," Johnson said. "He basically said they will be successful whether they get me or not but that they want me."
Johnson said Oregon, Iowa State, USC and Louisville are up there with the Spartans when it comes to being involved in his recruitment. Michigan is still involved but hasn't offered, and Johnson also mentioned N.C. State, Kansas, Texas, TCU, VCU and Georgetown as having varied levels of interest.
Johnson said he'll sit down with his mother and others close to him after the summer and that he would like to take all five visits.

Isn't Johnson's sister a basketball player here? Or is that someone else? Also, interesting comment by Izzo. Odd way to recruit.

Not sure what kind of impression it made with JJ but I'm sure Izzo was just being honest. Michigan St. seems to be loaded with post talent from their 2012 class. Probably just letting him know he will need to earn PT his first year or two.

Or perhaps it was a pressure technique to get him to commit sooner than later so they could get him all sewn up.

Yeah, who knows. The guy has been recruiting successfully for a long time so I am sure he knows what he is doing. I hope Johnson realizes how thin we are at post but how strong the guards are. Could be an impact player from the jump on a pretty great team.

Just over 4 months until the early signing period. I hope we can get a commitment from Johnson or Vaughn in that period... that would be huge, and could sway us to get the other with that kinda talent added to our already stout roster.

Vaughn will hold off until the late signing period for sure. Johnson will probably commit somewhere shortly after he finishes up his officials, which could be done by the early signing period I believe.

Oh I'm sure Vaughn will wait til the late signing period, which sucks to have to wait that long, but if we have a solid showing in the tournament it could help that he waited. It's hard battling with the bluebloods for recruits, but it's a testament to Hoiberg that we've been in the running this long.

Sometimes things are lost in translation. Obviously we're hearing it 3rd hand and have no idea what context that was said or what Izzo's body language was at that time. Sometimes it's not what you say but how you say it.

And frankly it's the truth. MSU will be fine with or without him.
