Reasons for ISU FB transfers

Hey all, I’ve been avidly reading threads here, following the right people on X, etc. and there’s one specific topic related to ISU’s transfers post CMC that I haven’t seen mentioned much.

I get these reasons for significant transfers following the coaching change:
1. Follow CMC
2. Get more $
3. Seek more playing time
4. Chase a bigger “brand”

But I haven’t seen much talk around how many of these guys were either told by new CJR staff that there isn’t a role for them if they stay, or that they can stay, but only for less $$ than they got previously, as CJR has different priorities for who gets what.

And I get CJR wanting to win with his guys and dole out NIL the way he sees fit, but I’d also see a lot of these previous ISU starters as a good bridge toward building the way he wants to over the next few years.

As upset as many ISU fans were at all these transfer announcements, I couldn’t help but wonder how many were told to leave. Anyone got any insights?

Points 1&2 has 95% of it covered. Starters following Campbell will probably see less playing time, our 2nd&3rd stringers may be in the third category. I only see 3 or 4 guys in point 4.

I would guess that Pollard filled the role immediately in order to stem the tide of transfers. It didn’t work, but why would an incoming coach want even more turnover of players? The only “overpaid” guys I can think of are Rocco and Sama.

If we waited even 2-3 weeks to hire a coach it would have closed the gap in the portal. Hiring ASAP allowed us to get a high quality coach to pull transfers and restock our 2026 recruiting hole. It was a smart move to hire when we did.

How many players do you believe were told they’re not welcome back or would need to take a pay cut?

I’m thinking those high end guys saw this as an opportunity to move on. Either to PSU or elsewhere. Maybe 12-15 guys. Get some extra $$. Could be substantial.

Rest are trying to get what they can. Not going to play any ball after college and chasing any $$ they can get, and if it’s $15-20k more than here, they’ll take it. I think most of those will be severely disappointed. I’m guessing many of our lower end guys weren’t getting much, so just trying to cash in.

Depends who you ask here. The idea of them taking a "pay cut" doesn't square with the narrative that they were all playing for under market value becaues they loved CMC so much. People are twisting themselves into logical pretzels with the narrative about this.

I think they are just shopping themselves. Nothing to lose unless the current coaches won’t take you back. Which is a distinct possibility.
