Is it good the conference is so public with all these ideas that all seem to go nowhere? I guess it shows the conference is being proactive and is on the offensive but idk.
It shows the B12 is being proactive in preparing for the future, examining different options to put it's members in the best position possible. Contrast that with the ACC, who seems to just coast along and wait for things to happen.

The reason IMO it was so public was due to UConn leadership and their intent to display evidence that they were doing something proactive to reduce their massive student fee and taxpayer burden relative to continued financial support of their FB program.

Not really, Frank clearly spells it out amongst multiple and plausible scenarios.
Of course it would get sorted out legally. I didn't say who was going to be successful in their arguments.

All conferences have rules and procedures on how a member school departs the conference. If a school who is a member of conference A isn't following those procedures and having "back room negotiations" with conference B, it would be up to conference A to prove that the school intended to leave while violating conference A's bylaws.

Its very likely that the first step in any departing procedure would be to notify the conference in a particular way spelled out in the bylaws. If the school in question hasn't taken that step, then Conference A would need to show evidence that the school intended to leave and purposely didn't follow the procedures. "Reports" from sports reporters or other individuals on Twitter is all going to be hearsay unless they start spilling sources under oath.

The B12 isn't a position where the they need to grab schools the ACC might want as backfill post-GOR.

The only thing that matters is per-school media money. Since these talks stalled, I have to assume UConn wasn't going to help the B12 out in that regard. Post-GOR, the ACC leftovers need to keep pace with the B12 or they'll very likely lose additional members to the B12. If UConn doesn't help the B12 increase their media money, how would they help the ACC?

A lot of people were floating SDSU, UNLV, Boise St and maybe some others as B12 targets to outmaneuver the PAC. Turns out that would have been completely unnecessary. Even if Houston and BYU were available, I don't think they would have moved the needle enough to land them a media deal on par with the B12 and ACC. The PAC could've have the numbers necessary, but not the dollars. The ACC likely ends up the same place, however they'll probably have enough schools left over to backfill and continue on as a relatively distant #4.
The PAC was offered a deal similar to the Big12 first but turned it down wanting more. The Big12 took it and the PAC’s was pulled.

CUSA is in real trouble.

The remaining MW schools are going to backfill with New Mexico State and UTEP immediately along with the FCS 5.

That takes them down to 10 assuming the transitionals decide to stay and they're really going to have to reach for truly fringe FCS schools in the southeast, think Eastern Kentucky, Chattanooga and Tarleton.

Just when you think everything settled down...

Would NDSU jump up to MWC?

I really thought it would be a “merger” with the MW but I like the way they are doing this.

Utah State, although no real history, has a decent enrollment in a state that cares about athletics. Could be a sneaky good choice.

Guessing they have their eyes on Memphis and Tulane for the start of a central division more or less

I think it's important they get some eyeballs east of the Rockies and in the Central Time Zone. I could see a "pod" of Memphis, Tulane, Tulsa, and UTSA doing well, all things considered.

I just don’t really see what the point of this PAC 12 move is. Its like they went “what if we rebuilt the Mountain West but with a different name”
I assume continuing to exist as a conference is the point. But the Pac without USC is silly. They should let it die with some dignity.

The PAC 12 is dead, looks like it should consider a rename branding. Something like Big West 10 or whatever number they end up with if the 4 Dakota schools join.

It seems more like they cut the bottom feeders out. I expect the SEC and Big 10 to eventually do the same.
