With the new playoff setup UO/UW/UU might be fine with sitting tight in a lesser conf that they think they can win. Even if it backfilled with MW teams, easier to be one of the top 6 rated conf champ. Maybe they will negotiate for the Pac Conf Champ to keep most of payday when making the CFP?

But it will be so much less money. They are only staying if there is unbalanced revenue sharing which will rot that conference from the inside out. No way Arizona and CU stay put for an even worse cut of less than big 12 money.

I think most schools will prefer more money, especially because the PAC will be the first P5 to miss the top 6 highest rated conference champions to make the playoffs.

FWIW this is the way I see it playing out:

One or more of the 4 corners jumps and soon all 4 are in the fold.

UW and UO are then in a quandry. They Wait/hope for a B1G invite to jump.

If the B1G invite comes they'll jump.

If it doesn't and the time comes for the 4 corners to be playing in actual Big XII games, they will come crawling since the PAC is decimated.

Big XII makes sure they sign a airtight GOR or no deal.

Hopefully they eventually decide Big XII is where they should be and feel comfortable with it.

I also feel the 6 best conference champs will be negotiated as the Commissioners meet to firm up the playoff structure. I don't think anyone will be happy if we have conference champions ranked 18+.

With UCF, Cincy, Houston and BYU now in Big12, it's seems like half the P5 schools that compete at a high level are gone from G5.

Something tells me $ is going to create a further hurdle that G5 schools must meet to be eligible. Could also apply to P5 champs as well, like the conference has to have won playoff game in last 3 or 5 years.

Yormark and Warren have probably already disdcussed UO and UW. Even though it's not ethical. Warren and Yormark will team up to take over college athletics.

So far when presented the opportunity between improved chances to win a conference and cash, they have all taken the cash. Any of the schools get a Big 10 offer they are taking it. Not only for the money, but out of fear that Big 10 and SEC will pick off enough teams, get to a total of 48 and split off. The Big 10 doesn't need any of those schools, and the difference between a good pickup or a mediocre one in the grand scheme of per school revenue isn't going to make that big of a difference. A conference with Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State is probably worth $80-100M per school. The rest are all in the margins. Sure they want to optimize, but there's nobody but ND left that is going to drive the revenue up by a meaningful amount across 18-24 teams at $80-100M per team as it is.

It's also a reason why Stanford certainly can be in play. UO, UU or UW are all worth more from a sports media perspective, but not enough that it has a real material impact on per team revenue. UCLA did not add value, but were added as a USC dance partner.

You need a timezones lesson. All the timezones around AZ move in synch, so Arizona's time in practice aligns with PDT part of the year and MST the other part is the year. Trust me, half my work team is in AZ, a quarter in CA, and the others sprinkled in the other TZ's. Our coro Meeting times in March and Nov get weird until we adjust to what is essentially AZ'S 'New' TZ.
"Arizona is pacific time zone March-November."
I live in AZ and is never "Pacific" time. It is always Mountain Standard Time.
Who needs a lesson in time zones?

I don’t think we get OR and WA unless the PAC crumbles, and that means a minimum 2 of the corner schools jumped.
I agree. I have been lurking on the Pac's message boards. Arizona is the most Big 12 positive. Colorado has resigned itself that maybe they should go to the Big 12.

Arizona State has some in favor of the Big 12. Other ASU fans say if the money is $15-$20 million per year more in the Big 12, make the move. The rest of the Pac are anti-Big 12. Screw the others. Take 2 now and let the others eventually ask nicely if they can have a Big 12 invite.

Part of the reason I say don’t take anymore than we need. UO and UW if they will come if not, 2 others. I know the other schools may lose value over time, but tell me how that is bad when we are looking at a large break away in the future possibly. It cuts the Competition. To get there. It’s possible when the ACC explodes we could have a set of the P2 and the big XII with a very weak PAC and ACC left. It’s possible that 3 conferences survive and we get 3 20s out of this. So take what we need, no more and walk away.

What's fascinating was the draw of the backyard brawl. Those rivalry matchups can not be ignored. If you get one of those per week in a conference, the conference's ratings will shoot up and be more desirable. BUT, they've gotta be blood thirsty rivalries, ala BYU vs Utah, KS vs K-State, etc.

Think you are onto something there, that could be part of the branding for the big12. Does provide bigger games and more valuable content, thus $$. But also, something along the lines of the "it just means more" tagline.

It was also the first game of the year, people want football after 8-9 months off. It would still draw well in October but not like it did this year.

The announcement show where each of the PAC 12 AD's sit at a table and one-by-one put on the hat of the conference they're moving to is going to be lit with suspense.
Sarcasm pirate intended here or is this an actual thing?

No way any of the four corner schools are going to move in any direction until after the Big 12 makes its pitch using the updated media amounts from ESPN/Fox/etc.

I don't think we should be deciding what Pac12 schools are "Big12 Worthy" by random fans on message boards.

Who's in is a financial decision and maybe a small amount university fit.

This tweet is the first time I've heard Yormark quoted specifically saying that he's looking westward for expansion. I also found it interesting that he emphasized competing at a high level in basketball as well as football.

The conference has failed to market itself as the #1 basketball conference even though it has been by a mile. When the ACC and Big East had their dominant runs you’d constantly hear about how it was the greatest thing ever.

Based on KenPom the Big 12 is probably currently in a 7-8 year run of dominance beyond what any other conference has achieved. I don’t think even our own fans appreciate this league.

Big 12 needs to be pounding this. Football is the driver, but for a league like the Big 12 basketball makes a difference. It’s probably the one conference with a high enough ratio of bball to football media value where it results in a material difference in per team revenue.

Arizona is pacific time zone March-November.

I know it was 100 degrees in LA when this pic was taken, but how many fans do you think would show up to Jack Trice if it was 100 degrees? I'd say 50k..... or 60k if it was against Iowa.

I live near there and UCLA sports fans don’t exist. Not even for their recent final four run.

10000000% positive if you were an advertiser more actual real eyeballs would watch your ads for ISU football than UCLA, significantly more. I used to live closer to campus and same thing there.

They got lucky tagging along with USC. If you’re near USC on game day it’s more like normal big time college football.

Pasadena is going to have more vacation big ten fans for every home game than UCLA fans. Their own fans might outnumber a few like Rutgers, Maryland or Purdue but not most. At least for a few years.
