Go 20. Washington State and Oregon State should be in the Mountain West.

Oregon State reminded me a lot of ISU though when I was in Corvallis, so I'd hate to see it happen to them. But you're right it'd probably be the better financial situation. Though if we are bringing in that many pac teams they may want to bring everyone (Washington and Oregon at least would have interest, and more west coast teams is better for travel for them)

Be a good day for CW to make his first guest appearance on Fanatics to get his opinion.

Strength in numbers. Take the whole rest of the Pac. 22 schools, who cares. Figure out schedules later. Washington State and Oregon State really don’t deserve it, but whatever. Stanford and Cal will have to suck it up or go independent, which they could do.

I get it but it just seemed like kind of the weakest flex possible seeing as the Big 10 is on the verge of dropping a nuclear bomb on college sports.
Don't disagree with you at all there, I would have pointed out first that the NY market in no way shape or form is "covered" by the big ten.

New media deal probably going to be announced relatively soon, which is why they finally decided to let this cat out of the bag.

Makes sense. I suppose it's built in that the new teams that follow USC and UCLA increase the package by a proportional dollar amount.

I wonder if we would be better off not having added the new 4 schools....if we were at 8 we could just merge with the Pac 10 and be 18 total....but then I suppose you risk the Pac 10 taking a couple Big 12 schools.

I wonder if the Big 10 just takes 6 schools and goes to 20....making a west coast wing....USC, UCLA, Oregon, Wash, and 2 others...
It doesn’t feel like to me that BIG adds only 2 schools from out west….IDK

Really wonder what the new deal is going to be with these two. Makes it seems even more likely that it is just these two schools being added unless there is some solid language in the contract about adding more schools and how it effects payouts.

One thing that always kills me with most major college athletics stories like this is that a single reporter breaks the news, and literally within minutes dozens more reporters "can confirm" the story, and not an hour later there are stories on every major sports site about how this has been in the works for months, apparently right under the noses of all these reporters whose sources confirmed everything at the exact same moment.

There's a whole lot of lying and ass-covering going on and it's pretty gross.

Many of them may have been working this story but didn't have enough to feel comfortable going to print with it yet. But as soon as one reporter rolls with it, they may feel more comfortable sharing what they've heard as well, since it won't be just them out on the limb

Nice campus...visited there back in 2019 when daughter was doing college visits. Definite Ames vibes (but with mountains instead of grain silo's). The perception in Oregon between Oregon and Oregon State is very similar to the Iowa and Iowa State thing

I see all this stuff talking about how the Big10 now has schools in the 5 biggest media markets, but that feels like old media talking and not the new media/streaming.

How does having Rutgers in New York really help the Big10 with AppleTV if no one in New York cares? Or Northwestern in Chicago?

I get the money aspect of things and trying to get as much as possible in this current environment, but at some point a super conference model will not work and it will have to be it's own league. Weird times. And I'm not convinced any of the realignment stuff has been good for the long-term health of collegiate athletics.
