Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Levine is being kind.

It’s not that they don’t want change, it’s that they don’t want to lose the ability to further change things in their favor

This bill doesn’t really change anything in terms of realignment or conference hierarchy. It just hits pause on current configuration

It's pretty ironical that the president of the MLB club that's the richest and has done more in the way of cannibalizing the smaller market clubs in his league over the past decades is putting himself out there as the voice of reason when it comes to fairness and leveling the playing field for all in college sports.

No more ironic than P2 leaders and acolytes, ones that have actually done the most harm to fairness and level playing field in college athletics, getting a chance to determine how to protect the industry from an unsustainable unfair and non level playing field

I don’t think the PCSA is as good for M2 as PE solutions, but let’s hope this accelerates the slow pace of realignment.

Adding the $700 million and no new conference amendments, have G6 and P2 hopefuls questioning bill.

Do P2 hopefuls desperate to jump while they can, find a P2 with a persecution complex large enough to accept?

This is carefully placed 'bait'. Don't bite.

Not really. The SEC and B1G are the ones benefitting from the unfair system and they're fighting to keep it that way. The NYY have benefitted from the unfair system and now are telling college sports they should be more just and fair about things when they've never cared about that in their own league.

Well when in doubt you have to listen to the president of the New York Yankees on how college sports should operate, there is just so much overlap lol
That and saw reports yesterday that NFL, NFLPA & NBAPA came out in support of legislation and writers thought that was significant.

Why wouldn't the NFL & NBA support the current model? They don't have to pay for their a minor leagues. Even MLB jumped in and wants to do away with HS draftees.

Recent moves toward rev share & NIL are even better for them. The Professional Leagues benefit the longer kids don't get drafted. Plus, the player's association members would rather have 35 year olds sitting on the bench vs. an 18-20 year old. Job security for members who vote on CBA.

lol, what?

Levine has had no part of creating the current problem in college athletics

The P2 absolutely have

It’s infinitely more ironic for P2 to be involved than Levine

Clearly Utah fan not liking status quo getting locked in. But a decent percentage of M2 think they have P2 chances, so this could be an issue in passing the bill

The SEC and B1G reap all the benefits from the current unfair system in college athletics, and they want to keep that system unfair.

The New York Yankees reap all the benefits from the unfair system in MLB and have never had any interest in changing that unfair system to level the field for all MLB clubs; but they're now chiming in on college athletics saying the unfair system should be changed and leveled for everyone.

Hence the irony.

SIAP
Big 10 might have won the last three championships, but SEC won the realignment war:

From the Wall Street Journal:

“Two years ago, SEC and Big Ten football games drew similar television audiences. This season, however, the second campaign since each league expanded, the SEC’s average audience has surged by 49% while the Big Ten’s has dropped 11%, according to Nielsen. The average regular-season SEC football game now draws 2 million more viewers than the average Big Ten game.”

FYI: If the ACC imploded prior to the passage of the sports act the following schools in the ACC have the largest endowments and/or number of billionaire donors:
Stanford
Duke
Virginia
Pitt
UNC
Miami
SMU

JFC what a stupid take. Yes, the Yankees have benefited from a system tilted towards them. But that system still wasn't going to destroy half the MLB. You ******* idiot Iowa fans pretending to be reasonable make me ******* sick. Go **** yourself.

It's not? You think half the MLB has any kind of chance of even making the playoffs much less winning a World Series? Hell many of them operate at a loss most years while the Yankees are valued at $9 billion.

And yeah this idiot Iowa fan fully realizes that with the current model in college sports my team has zero chance of ever making a B1G title game or a CFP title game regardless of our blessed position in a P2 or what our media deal revenues are. I'm just capable of accepting the reality of where the world is and laughing at those who think any of it is actually going to change. Sorry if that chafes you down there.

When is the last time the Yankees won a World Series?
When is the last time the Royals won a World Series?
