Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

It makes you wonder how they ever made it to a major D1 power conference in the first place. They seem like being in the old MTW would have been a better fit for them all along, probably them and OSU too.

Hell at this point you almost wonder if they should have been in the Big Sky all along.

I guess they have 20K students on the main campus, so there is that.
They got right sized. It sucks but they had no business at that level in 2025.

If you were starting the Pac 8 from scratch today, they absolutely would've taken the Arizona schools over Wazzu and Oregon State.

Arizona had only been a state for 2 years when the original PAC was formed. The world changes.

Why are we arguing about Northwestern? This is a weird Hill to fight for. Its not like they are a big player in overall realignment.

With that:

The B1G is not kicking them out, there are others that would go before them if they decided to kick anyone out.

NW is not voluntarily leaving the B1G for any reason, I dont even know why someone would think that, even in some moron Athletic writers pipe dream.

NW is not even remotely on the B12s radar in realignment and coming up with weird scenarios where they might be is ridiculous.

Trying to manufacture some far fetched rivalries because they are a private school makes about as much sense as any manufactured rivalries. They dont work, and trying to claim this school or that school is similar just because of private vs public makes no sense either.

As far as sports go, NW has much closer rivals in the B10 than they ever will have trying to manufacture them in another conference, because of some weird reasons.

If it is just about being private etc. you could argue has more similarities with USC that is now in the B1G than they ever would with BYU, and trying to claim BYU is on the same academic playing field is quite a reach.

There are a lot of pipe dream scenarios out there, but one that says NW is better in the B12 than the B10 is absolutely ridiculous.

So, again why are we arguing this? It makes absolutely no sense.

Because Cody Campbell said so.

If they had been established in Spokane instead of Pullman things might have been different. They're very proud of their origin story of how the people of Pullman hoodwinked state officials to build it there instead of Spokane, but in the long run it's held the university back.

Why do some people worship that dude. Seriously, he only cares about 1 university. And would burn every other B12 school to the ground if it benefitted his TT.

Does he have some ideas that could possibly work or help everyone, sure, but in the end if TT got an invite to the SEC today, he and them would abandon the rest of the B12 in a heartbeat. He also has a lot of ideas that are very bad for everyone, and beyond those ideas, his actions prove he and his type are bad for college sports, regardless of any of his so called ideas.

His overpaying and extreme NIL payments are what is wrong with college sports, so I tend to believe regardless of any of his ideas, he and his money is exactly what is wrong with college sports more so than any of his ideas may help. Point being, if he wanted to fix anything he could easily start in his own house first. But he wont because it is not what is good for all, it is what is good for him and TT, period.

So what are his very bad ideas?

Media rights pooling with 7x10 realignment would double or triple existing media revenues for all of FBS and end the dysfunctional BS that exists with the existing footprints of the B12, B10 and ACC. And the dysfunctional BS breeds idiotic proposals from the Fox Puppet, Pettiti, for a 24 team CFB with no conference champs. And the root cause for that dumbass proposal are the oversized conferences that only benefit ESPN and Fox and raise the risk of additional financial and competitive relegation for the likes of ISU and 20-25 other schools at the end of the decade.

And even Sparty and the UNI boy know that one legacy B10 school would have to leave to make it work and NW would be the logical choice.

BFD. They would be contiguous to the new B12 footprint.

They are the no-brainer choice to get to 10 for the B10 in a 7x10 scenario.

It isn't necessarily good or bad ideas...it is whether the are realistic! And they aren't...even in your last argument...why would NW do this? For the good other schools? And don't say for more money...because if every school gets more money...then NW loses! They won't be ahead of non-Big10/SEC schools. Again, not realistic.

How he sees and uses NIL for 1.

I can dream up all kinds of things too, but those also are never happening so why are you or anyone even talking about it.

At this point its no different than all those made up scenarios you seen on YT and socials of peoples Ideas of ideal conferences. They might be cool, they might even be right, but they also are never going to happen at this point so why even bother.

Cody only cares about 1 thing, TT and the sooner you figure that out, the better.

I'm trying to approach this as gently as I can.

Do you genuinely believe we will ever see the 7 x10 scenario? Not SHOULD see it, mind you, but WILL see it.
The SCORE Act is needed to codify House and enable the NCAA to enforce House and new sensible transfer rules. Everyone can agree on that.

But SCORE didn't get passed last year in large part due to not including media rights pooling (SBA Amendment) and it will never get passed without it because there is now recognition within several key members of the House/Senate of the money being left on the table due to ESPN/SEC and Fox/B10 control of the sport and using that extra money to save the majority of non-rev sports.

And if the SBA Amendment does get passed with media rights pooling, revenues won't get maxed with the current conference configurations. 7x10 realignment would separate the tentpole programs amongst the 7 conferences and incent other bidders like Amazon, Paramount/CBS, NBC, Google, etc. into the CFB space in similar fashion to the NFL where each bidder has access to the tentpole programs and more importantly, they would all have access to a 16 team CFP (7+9 model) that wouldn't conflict with the NFL and would end by Jan 10th. It is easy to see why there would exponential revenue growth from doing this.

Obviously, ESPN and Fox and their respective puppet boys don't want this and is why Pettiti was mocked in DC with his lobbying last year.

Do. You. Think. Any. Of. This. WILL. Happen. ???

LOL, absolutely not. If you knew anything about me you would not say that. But I dont think they all are perfect. I also am not blind.

Seriously, you need to tone down the Cody Campbell worship, its gotten a bit weird. The fact that every idea he comes up with is the greatest thing ever dreamed to you and you fail to at least acknowledge why he wants to do any of it, is more of the issue than anything else.

But the problem is not so much whether or not he has good or bad ideas, its whether or not any of those ideas will ever happen. And sorry, but the one you are pushing will NEVER happen. It is a fantasy, a pipe dream, it barely more than a joke. I can say I have a plan to marry Sydney Sweeney, but that doesnt mean in my wildest dreams it will ever happen, so why would I argue nonstop that its a good plan.

Good idea, bad idea, dont matter when the idea will never actually happen. That..... is the point.
