Not exactly sure.
That would be sad if it comes to this. The nice thing about bowl games was playing teams in other conferences that you may not get a chance to.
Not it may be about playing a team in your conference that you never get to. Maybe Iowa will actually play OSU.

Great thread here that describes what has already played out from realignments of a decade ago, and will surely play out from this one.

Any other good podcasts about all this to listen to today?
I'm sure Danny uploads his but for a die hard Bowden FSU guy to quasi admit that they could be in trouble was kind of refreshing to hear from an ISU point of view.

A Much, much higher number than 25% of college football fans will be watching. And you probably will end up watching too.
Based on this, about half the people are either avid or casual fans. 22% avid and 29% casual

Let’s say that this represents adults aged 18-and older (I know that there are more CFB fans at other ages, but being a bit conservative)

According to this, there are 258 million adults in America.

So, there are about 130 million CFB fans.

According to this, only 22.6 million watched the championship game. That would be 17%. I think 25% is high, not low.

Not to be a Debbie Downer here, but when has the Big 12 ever taken a team from a Power 5 conference? Most likely the PAC or even the ACC (and as a result new TV contracts) are getting ready to poach from the B12 again, sadly. I hope I’m wrong or if not I hope we are one of the teams getting poached.

Someone mentioned bowls turning into inter conference games. Makes sense since you can only play 9 or 10 of your 20 or 24 conference teams. Plus they’re going to find more money in managing the new game all within the conference and trying to get better tv ratings.

Since ESPN basically runs all the bowl games if you blow up the bowl system then Fox and come in and get half the games.

Was the 2022 championship a matchup between the expanded B10 and expanded SEC? If not, I don't see what the point of you wasting your time on this was.

Yep, Iowa will at best play Neb/Wisc/Minn annually but if they go 8-4, the B1G can put them in an all-B1G bowl game against 8-4 Northwestern or Indiana or whatever other long-time conference mate that they now play once every five years. SEC will do the same.

Until yesterday, the Big 12 was the only existing power conference to have lost a significant member (Maryland to the B1G from the ACC being the only other example). The Pac-12 has now been punched as hard as the Big 12 was last year. Things have changed

Truth be told, I didnt watch much of the football or basketball season this past year. This constant carousel and consolidation of conferences has sucked all the fun out of college sports for me. I don't know if I want to watch any of it anymore.

That’s why realignment is so fun. At every given time this happens the landscape is different in the TV contracts, GOR’s, team value, etc. can’t look at anything that happened in the past and predict the future except in broad strokes like “someone else is going to leave a conference X”.

When has the PAC ever been seen as this weak? If Oregon and Washington do leave, the conference is done and that's how we take schools. If they stay, then maybe last week's rumors of Kansas to the PAC have more legs. But adding Boise and SDSU to the PAC isn't going to bolster their claim to being a power conference. Oregon and Washington will be constantly looking for landing spots.

If the B1G does not take Washington and Oregon then I would not be surprised if they go to the ACC. Travel is out the window. Stanford, Cal, the mountain schools maybe also (probably not all of them). Whoever is left over would have to go to the Big 12 then if we wanted them. They would make more money in the ACC than in the Big 12 if they joined the ACC

Good points and I hope I’m wrong I just have little confidence in the B12 leadership (maybe the new guy will change my mind).
