Totally agree that if the big ten extends an invite that they jump but I just don’t know if they do extend the invite. Also with the changes to the playoff why would they want to leave? They are essentially guaranteed a playoff spot every couple years and only have utah to compete with.
Except, payout in the "new" Pac will suck. Sure, you make the playoffs every few years or so, but you also only get $30M per year. You think Rutgers cares about the playoffs? Not a chance, but they are cashing a $65M (and increasing) paycheck every year. Both Washington and Oregon need the higher payouts if they want to compete with the big boys.

They playoff money would have to be pretty big to offset their new contract, which contrary to their rumored demands, won't get off the ground if the revenue sharing isn't equal.
If they move to the big ten at this point they won’t be getting a fair cut for a decade. If they move to the big 12 they might get a 10mil bump but that will be obliterated by travel costs while also making it harder to become the next Clemson by appearing in the playoffs. They have also been operating their AD’s perfectly fine with the lower revenue so it’s not like much will change.

Oregon has hung with the big boys fine with their funding due to donor support. Washington has been fairly consistent too with their wealthy alumni base. If they move to the big ten there is no way they get a full share for a long time. Yeah the extra money helps for coaching salary and faculty upgrades but that’s kinda it. Both school are already pretty secure in those things.

Rutgers must be the luckiest school in the country.

I hope the B1G adds Oregon and Washington. Waters down the B1G some more, and all but puts an end to the PAC.

Yormark is at least projecting strength of the Big 12 media positioning.

“I can tell you that from a TV perspective we’ll go up [in value],” Yormark said. “We’re not going backwards, we’re not staying flat. Whether we can get an early extension or not, we’re looking at increased numbers, which are indicative of the value of this conference and our members.”
He added: “And when you think of expansion, it’s gotta be the right cultural fit. We are as aligned as I think this conference has ever been.”

Full summary from his interview.

This is very refreshing to see. Every time the previous commish opened his mouth it made the Big12 look pathetic. No idea what the actual increase in value is going to be but guy is saying all the right things.

Dolla dolla billz y'all.

Everyone is chasing $$$ out of FOMO. Plus with as much change as has happened, do you want to be hitched with Ohio St, or Oregon St? Even if the risk of a P2 or smaller NFL-lite breakaway league is low, it isn't zero.

It's refreshing because Yormark doesn't have to deal with OU and UT people, who never met a microphone and camera they didn't like.

Agree. Yormark has done nothing but project strength for the conference when speaking to the media. Whether or not everything he says or insinuates comes to fruition is another thing, but at least he's winning the PR game right now, which is something the Big 12 is not used to doing.

"We aren't taking anybody that thinks the Big12 is a fallback choice, and actually wants in the B1G and won't sign a hard core GoR" (e.g. Oregon, UW)

The playoff specifics haven't been agreed upon by the P5 & G5 Commissioners, along with ND's AD. If they each have equal voice, then I would agree that Oregon & Wash might be able to structure Pac12 revenue sharing in a way to keep them in a Pac10.

After all, each P5 conference could get $300M+ in playoff $ if the payout rates remain the same as today. That's a pretty big chunk of what could be discretionary money for a conference where a conference's team(s) that make the playoffs could get a much larger share.

Other possibilities that the Big10 & SEC could push are:
  • Maybe there are less than 6 auto qualifiers among Conference champs.
  • Add a stipulation that all 6 auto qualifiers be ranked in top 12.
  • The biggest influence could be the CFB Playoff split. I have seen some speculation the Big10 & SEC will push for at least 2x the split that the ACC, Big12 & Pac12 receive. They could also push for an even split among P5 plus a fixed amount to each conference for each of their teams that gets a playoff bid.

Is there a reason as to why other conferences won't have to vote on this anymore? They just gave everyone else a seat at the table.
