Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Ya because the B10 wouldn't let them play during COVID. Do you think that example is relevant to this?
Wrong, it wasn’t;t the Big 10, it was the governors of a majority of states. Forced Big 10s hands.

So covid makes what he did right?
You mean his comment that he immediately said was his joke during a global pandemic when the conference was making up the rules as they went? It makes it irrelevant.

I’ll tell ya what, if we get another once in a lifetime pandemic and the big ten cancels the season only to scape something together last min then it’s a fair talking point

Hope there are some lawyers on this forum willing to take up the cause to go after the Big 10 and SEC if they breakaway. I'll pitch in for their time. Not counting on our Iowa politicians to help us out.
The B10 and SEC had anti trust lawyers sit in on their joint meetings knowing they are playing with legal fire. Rest assured that if they break away and numerous schools are relegated in the process, Fed antitrust lawyers will be all over them.

Wrong again. He didn’t make it public during COVID, but after.

Then leave this board. I’m not stopping you. That is a very condescending comment to make.
It’s more factual than condescending. I get why people do it but it’s just not in any way relevant to any normal season especially with the mess the big ten created (of their own making)

The whole point of breaking away is to give the B10 and SEC less competition to compete with. Delegitimize other conferences. Get a bigger media deal. Adding teams that don't create more value but still get a piece of the pie wouldn't make sense in this scenario.
Without a doubt, but is 34 teams enough programing and do they want to be forced to set up a championship tournament for every sport? How well are the TV ratings going to be when they leave out 55% of the fan bases? I mean how many fans of none B10 or SEC are going to be watching those games, knowing that there team is not part of the big boy league?

The NCAA is not going to give them an out for football, but staying for all the rest of the sports, I mean why would they? By doing so they give up all leverage and might as well just fold the entire organization or let all the schools free and work on the smaller levels.

Do you not think the ACC is going to have several of its top programs poached in the not too distant future once we get closer to the GoR expiring? I wouldn't count on the B1G staying at 18 and the SEC at 16 once that becomes feasible. I could be wrong.

You, me, and 95% on here would not be pounding the table to help Iowa out and let them in. Be serious
We wouldn’t have to pound the table because if the roles were reversed the Iowa Legislature would do the same thing Oklahoma’s attempted to do and tie any realignment by ISU as conditional on Iowa going as well. The Iowa General Assembly doesn’t really care for ISU.

Just more mouths to feed, the B10 and SEC cannot have it both ways, because is there going to be money for them if they keep expanding with teams from the ACC and B12? How much money is this new deal going to produce and will it be enough to feed all the new teams they bring in? Teams like Iowa are already maxed out money wise, with little or nothing in reserve, and then you want to add more teams and make each share smaller?

I really believe the SEC and B10 will talk about leaving, but then come to their senses and quickly figure out that leaving means everything, not just football, and then will then back down. If not, let them go, but also not allow any of their teams to play in any NCAA sponsored event going forward. If the B10 and SEC can make threats, so can the NCAA. Without them for football, why would they want them for the other sports? The money is going to drop either way, but then, you solve a major problem not having two conferences with unlimited resources and everyone else.

There are a bunch of noteworthy quotes in this article on the pros and cons of making the athletes employees. Here are a couple.

“I never thought I’d say it, but I’m there on employment,” one of those SEC presidents told Yahoo Sports recently. “Let’s collectively bargain.”

“So far, the NCAA has never acknowledged the comparison to work study-style student employment,” said Paul McDonald, the attorney who filed the Johnson case. “It is not credible, or sustainable, to argue that college athletes — the most controlled students, and only students required to prioritize non-academic activities — do not qualify for, and deserve, the same student employee status as classmates selling popcorn at NCAA games or performing menial tasks around campus.”
